New York Rangers need to improve in 3 areas to even line up against the penguins

Bad decisions with the puck and poor plays led to many shots on goals against her. In the third game, Patrick Nemeth struggled and had two poor games in the third inning which led to Pittsburgh winning with a winning goal. Ryan Lindgren has missed the last two games through injury and his return is badly needed in order for the team to return to playing a strong defence. It is still listed as a daily decision and match time.

Gerard Gallant should also keep Justin Brown in the squad when Lindgren returns and pair him with Braden Schneider. If Lindgren isn’t ready for Monday’s game, Galant may turn to Zac Jones, but it’s unlikely he’ll throw another novice in a playoff series against the extensively experienced Penguins.

Another notable problem is with the Rangers’ positions. They did not return to help in the depths of their area constantly. Since the pens always have a man in the high slot, the posts have to help the defensemen cover. This would help Shesterkin, who until Saturday had been stopping everything in his path except skewed shots downhill at him. Centers need to help cover these players.

Hit the net please!

There were some excellent scoring opportunities for Rangers on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the team misses the net quite often. The third goalkeeper, Louis Domingu, was not adequately tested in my opinion. Although considered a backup successor, he has NHL experience and two big wins in the series.

Instead of just shooting pucks from all angles, which they did several times on Saturday, they should play their game in the attack zone. Drive into the net more, check the goalkeeper, spin from corners to create scoring chances and stop trying to make him an ESPN special.

The same can be said about the power game which was 0-3 in the third game. They need to get more shots at the net and battle for rebounds. The Rangers top PP unit always seemed to be looking to do an icy cross pass for a shot into the wide open net. What they should do is get rid of the hacking and let Chris Kreider, who has led the NHL with 26 goals in man advantage, go to work.

It is imperative that they go back to what drove them to the playoffs in the first place.

More children’s line

Filip Chytil, Alexis Lafrenière and Kaapo Kakko played an important role in these qualifiers.

I played Kids Line fearlessly. They play aggressively on the offensive end, do back-checks all the way into the defensive zone and keep errors to a minimum.

The three combined in 16 shots on goal with one goal (Kaku) and a double assist for three points. In fact, Kakko has two goals but let’s not get into the impermissible goal that should have counted.

They averaged about 15 minutes per game but Galant needs to get a little more icy time. After three matches, they proved that they can create offensive opportunities and put some constant pressure into the Penguins area.

Shesterkin will be between the pipes on Monday night and is expected to have a huge bounce game. But he cannot do it alone. It’s time for others to step up, and other players to play above their expectations.

Qualifiers are a marathon, but losing on Monday will allow the Penguins to see the finish line. New York needs to get back to playing the hockey they’ve played all season. It is necessary to avoid going down 3 to 1 in this series.
