The Grizzlies are up 24-20 after the first quarter

The Warriors missed all 10 of their first quarter 3s and flipped them seven times.

Steph Curry 0 out of 4 from deep, Klay Thompson 0 out of 4. Curry is 10 out of 35 out of 3 in this series.

The warriors start slowly

The slow start was the thing for the warriors in this series. In the first six minutes of the four games:

Game 1: 12 points, 2 turns

Second game: 10 points, 4 turns

Game 3: 8 points, 4 turns

Game 4: 8 points, 4 transformations

Here Comes Paul (Grizzlies 15, Warriors 8)

The two best plus/minus warriors in this series are Otto Porter (+49) and Jordan Ball (+45). Nobody is better than +13 entering the night.

Neither Porter/Ball started and the Warriors dropped 13-8. Paul is about to enter after the timeout expires.

Fourth quarter increase in Celtics

Once again, the Celtics rose in the fourth quarter as Giannis and the Bucks lost their momentum. Bud left George Hill to be targeted long enough for Tatum to catch fire, then Smart has two bully balls down to score at the edge.

The playoffs carried them there, then Tatum shut them down. The Celtics tied this up with a return to Boston as their strategy to beat the Giannis is paying off.

Celtics win Game 4

No puzzle here. Boston scored 41 points in the fourth quarter, with Jason Tatum coming back to life, Derek White giving Boston impressive minutes in the junior ball lineup, and … Al Horford, at the Wayback Machine.

Milwaukee had exactly three stopping points in the fourth quarter as the crowd files exited the Fiserv Forum.

Celtics win 116-108.

Horford Special (Celtics 97, Pax 94)

Nothing sums up this streak better than Smart and Giannis attempting (unsuccessfully) to untangle them for complete possession while Al Horford scores one hook on Brook Lopez to score the 30th point on the line after the action timeout.

This series has been endlessly fierce, weird, and unexpected.

Horford game

Alhorford. Age 35. That was just a great match from him to bring the Celtics out of a double-digit deficit.

Horford and Giannis Show (Celtics 88, Pax 85)

How can you not love the competition between Giannis Antikonmo and Al Horford? Interlude basketball needs a little hostility.

Injuries occur. But tons of beef is good.

Grizzlies game 4 lineup

Stephen Adams is back in the starting lineup for the Grizzlies, along with Tyus Jones, Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks and Jaren Jackson Jr. The best way for the Grizzlies to score is to smash warriors into glass.

So far, things have gone the other way. Golden State wins the recoil battle. Also, don’t discount the way Adams’ screening opens things up to the Memphis Rangers. The question will come defensively, especially if the Grizzlies choose to play Adams when Kevon Looney is on the bench.

Bucks lead 80-73 after 3 quarters

Those are two games in a row with a big third quarter for the Bucks. They beat the Celtics, 34-17, in the third quarter on Saturday and just beat the Celtics, 32-26, on the third night. They have a small space heading into the fourth quarter with an 80-73 lead, but they still need to close. That helped Jaylen Brown pick up his fifth foul a few minutes earlier, but the Celtics fought back in match 3 at a similar spot.

Brown’s five mistakes

successful challenge. This is Jaylen Brown’s fifth bug instead of Jrue Holiday’s fourth bug. Just a big coup there.

Giannis Flutter (Pax 76, Celtics 65)

A bigger advance for the Bucks tonight is on the Antetokounmpo buoy. Dollars rise, 76-65, with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter. GA with 28/16.

I’m not quite sure how to describe that move he made running across the floor. A shimmering jog, perhaps? Either way, he feels himself.

Contextualizing Mike Brown’s Training Appearance

As of tonight, with Steve Kerr out with COVID, Warriors assistant Mike Brown becomes the head coach for both the Dubs and the Kings, who hired him to take charge when the playoff round at Golden State ended. As far as I know, Larry Brown is the only person in NBA history to coach two teams in the same season.

Spurs shot the LB left-back on January 21, 1992, even though San Antonio was 21-17 years old at the time. Owner Red McCombs fired Brown – and then, after Tottenham’s players complained, he offered Brown his job. Brown rejected him, and after 17 days, he agreed to open the Clippers coach.

Jillen Brown 4 mistakes

Jalen Brown made his fourth foul with 9:03 from the left in the third quarter. It will not only affect Boston’s shifts (that’s where Derek White comes in), but also defensive strategy. Brown spent time switching to Giannis during the series.

When he gets back on the field, you should expect the Celtics to get as far away from that as possible.

defense abundance

Well, it looks like we’re all ready for another rockstar fight between the Celtics and the Bucks. Both defenses bring intensity, so credit should be given to both teams, but bucks 5 of 17 out of 3 and the Celtics 6 of 21 from deep. Both teams have created some good looks, but they still miss out at a high rate.

Perhaps at some point in this series one of the crimes will take off again…

Bucks lead 48-47 in the first half

No idea how the Celtics drop one in half. They were dropping open shots left and right early in the start, but a few fell. They gave up 10 offensive rebounds but only an 8 second chance.

They got very lucky in some of those and finally got back into the game for real when they came out of the quarter break and doggedly attacked nearby rivals to find the open shooters. Jason Tatum still couldn’t hit the ball and Jaylen Brown skipped a set, even though he was their top scorer so far.

They executed a good game plan on Giannis to keep him from getting two feet in the paint while not putting much work on Horford and Williams to blast with him early.

Mike Brown is undefeated in the playoffs

Mike Brown is undefeated as the Warriors head coach. He stepped in for Steve Kerr back in 2017 and went 11-0 during the rumble across the West. This was Kevin Durant’s first season with the Warriors. Brown will coach his twelfth playoff for the franchise on the same day the Kings named him their next head coach.

Tatum’s 3-point shot (Celtics 43, Pax 40)

Lid is still running for Jayson Tatum from depth – 1 of 4 in 3s so far in Game 4 after losing all six shots from Saturday’s deep in Game 3.

But Boston is still hanging on because Alhorford continues to give them incredible minutes.
