MLB and Nike top year two of City Connect Uniform

Major League Baseball and Nike today revealed the seven clubs participating in this year’s City Connect Uniform Program. The seven clubs announced today will join the inaugural seven clubs that participated in 2021, bringing a total of 14 clubs to wear the City Connect uniform on the field by the end of the season.
The Nike MLB City Connect program was launched last season to celebrate the relationship between each club and their city. This Uniform series explores the character, values, and customs that make each community and its residents unique. Nike and MLB Clubs have teamed up to design shirts inspired by their cities to celebrate new baseball traditions and invite more baseball fans.
The second year of the Nike MLB City Connect program will feature seven additional clubs, including: the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals. The uniform for Nike’s MLB City Connect series will be revealed now through July.
The City Connect Series 2022 will be led by the Washington Nationals, whose jersey pays tribute to the majestic American capital and the proud, diverse and creative people of all backgrounds who call home. Inspired by the annual spring blossoms of the cherry blossom trees that abound around the Potomac Basin signifying the promise of new beginnings and possibilities for a new season, the shirt features a charcoal base color, a cherry blossom print, and a pop of pink at the edges. The “WSH” graphic on the front of the shirt reflects the strength and power of the neoclassical architecture found throughout the region. On the left sleeve, the District of Columbia patch is a tribute to not only America’s first president, but to all past, present, and future residents of Washington.
“There is nothing quite like the bond between baseball fans, their local teams, and their hometowns — and the Nike MLB City Connect series is an ongoing celebration of that relationship,” said Sonya Henning, Nike’s Vice President of North American League Partnerships. “We are thrilled to honor each club’s history while pushing the boundaries of what a baseball jersey can be. We hope this series will continue to revitalize old fans – and bring a new generation to the game.”
“The excitement that our fans and players have shown last year at every City Connect debut is exactly what this uniform is all about,” said MLB Director of Revenue Noah Garden. “When we first partnered with Nike, the incredible energy we see in every uniform launch is exactly what we imagine. Nike continues to raise the bar in working with our clubs on developing these unique designs, bringing to life each community’s story. We can’t wait to see how these uniforms continue. The next seven are with our fans and are exciting on the field this season.”
The MLB City Connect Series continues the Nike uniform design work to explore each organization’s connection to its city and fan base, each with distinct personalities, values, customs and traditions.
The Nike MLB City Connect Washington Nationals City Connect Jersey launches March 30th at the Nationals Team Store, and at select retail locations.
