The state championship brackets were released Wednesday morning for the 6A, 5A and 4A prep softball tournaments, and the 6A and 5A boys’ soccer playoffs. This is where the Northern Utah teams landed in the final RPI rankings and who they will face.
6 a: Fremont (#4) and Farmington (#7) have received first-round endorsements and will host a playoff series starting Thursday, May 19. Roy Hai, along with the remaining five teams from Region 1, will begin the first round series of qualifiers beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Webber is the No. 10 seed and host of No. 23 Canyon Canyon. No. 14 Leighton hosts No. 19 Hermann, No. 20 Roy goes to No. 13 West Jordan, No. 18 Davis visits No. 15 Lone Peak, No. 21 Clearfield plays at No. 12 Copper Hills, and No. 22 Syracuse travels to No. 11 Pleasant Grove.
5a: Despite losing the District 5 championship, Bonneville High earned a No. 2 seed after a regular 20-4 season. The Lakers, Bountiful No. 4, bid farewell to next week’s “Super Regional” Tour, a top three series starting Thursday, May 19.
No. 11 Box Elder and No.15 Viewmont host the first round series starting Saturday against opponents yet to be decided.
In Friday’s singles elimination round, No. 19 ranked 30th Northridge heads to Jordan, while 25th seed Woods Cross heads to No. 24 Olympus.
4A: Bear River, the state champion, is the No. 1 seed after a 25-3 regular season in which the Bears won the District 11 championship with an unbeaten record. They have bid farewell to the first round of the 4A playoffs and will play their first state championship game Wednesday, May 18 at the Canyons Softball Complex in St. George.
6 a: Defending state champion and District 1 champion Webber High earned the top seed in the 6A playoffs. The Warriors will play in the first round with the winner of the Roy/American Fork on Tuesday, May 17th.
They are one of four District 1 teams to win the first round of the meet after a particularly competitive and successful regular season from the schools of Northern Utah. Syracuse is seeded No. 4, Davis is No. 5 and Farmington is No. 6.
In the first round, which begins at 4 p.m. Friday, No. 12 Fremont host No. 21 Leighton and the winner heads to Davis in the next round. Number 17 Roy visits Number 16 American Fork and takes on winner Webber. No. 24 Clearfield goes to No. 9 Pleasant Grove.
Syracuse hosts the winner from Hunter/Kearns while Farmington hosts the winner of Riverton and Skyridge.
5a: Although there are three zone champions, zone 5 teams have a solid rise in the state championship. Northridge was the highest ranked team in District 5, taking the 12th seed bye only in the first round. Everyone else immediately plays the ‘Play’ matches on Thursdays at 4 p.m.
18 Bonneville, one of the three district champions, hosts #31 Payson and the other district champion, #19 Viewmont, hosts #30 Highland. Box Elder is seeded #20 and will host #29 Cedar Valley.
