2022 NFL ‘Monday Night Football’ schedule: Week 2 highlights roster

USATSI

The NFL will have an oddity in the league table in 2022 as there will be a double-header “Monday Night Football” in Week 2 (September 19), with two games played at the same time. The first game between the Tennessee Titans will take place at the Buffalo Bills, to be played at 7:15 PM EST on ESPN. The Philadelphia Eagles host the Minnesota Vikings in game two, which begins at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

The entire Monday night menu was released Thursday night, and you can check it out below.

The Bills are expected to be one of the favorites to reach the AFC Super Bowl, led by Josh Allen and a star attacker that includes Stevon Diggs and the appearance of Gabriel Davis. This will be the fifth consecutive year that Buffalo will play a Tennessee game as the Bills have lost their last two games to the Titans. This is the first time the two teams have met in Buffalo since 2018.

The Eagles had one of the biggest off-season moves with the acquisition of AJ Brown from the Titans and they were knocked out in a playoff last year. The Vikings missed the playoffs last year, but Justin Jefferson will make his first visit to Lincoln Financial Field since he picked Philadelphia Galen Rigor ahead of him in the 2020 NFL Draft. Jefferson is the only receiver in NFL history to collect 3,000 yards after his first his two seasons.

The “Monday Night Football” header has been a staple in the opening week of the schedule since 2006, as the late game (usually starting at 10:15 p.m. ET) featured West Coast teams. The first week header was eliminated last year for a double header display in Week 18 on the last Saturday of the regular season that included any team still fighting for a playoff point or division title (both were flexible matches). He will still play double headers on Saturday in Week 18 under his new TV contract.

In ESPN/ABC’s new contract with the league, the annual “Monday Night Football” header was expected to return this season with a twist. ESPN will raise its game slate from 17 to 23 and will have three games exclusively on ABC in addition to the games played on ESPN – so there will be three weeks of Monday Night Football in 2022 and every season after that. ESPN will also have the right to show Monday Night Football from week 12 to week 18. ESPN+ will also provide an exclusive game, which will be one of the international games on the calendar.
