Fights Cardinals attack in loss to Orioles

It was the 12th time in their first 31 games of the season that the Cardinal are behind by two games or less.

St. Louis – Thursday Game Report: Orioles 3, Cardinals 2

Steven Matz only made two fouls out of Thursday’s 101 throws, but that was more than the Cardinal’s attack could overcome.

Matz’s two fouls were hit over the wall, and the Cardinal’s inconsistent foul resulted in only two runs in the loss to the Orioles at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals lost two of the three games in the series against the Orioles and lost four of their last five games overall.

It was the twelfth time in their first 31 games of the season that two or fewer runs have been played.

Here’s how the game fell apart:

In the dish: The Cardinal only had three hits before Dylan Carlson scored two wins for seventh. Fly Sacrifice by Nolan Arenado, after a hit-and-run song by Paul Goldschmidt, scored the second in eighth… A single by Tyler O’Neal put the peg on the base with one on the ninth, but the ball was doubled first on a short fly ball to Midfield to finish the match… O’Neill also hit with loaded bases in the fourth game… Juan Ypez saw his hitting streak finish in eight games to start his career as he was 0- from 3 with outing… Albert Pujols made a foul and walked, his average dropped to .209.

on the heap: Both cliques of Matz came with two, one in the second and one in the seventh. After only allowing Homer one in his first five starts, the Mats five surrendered in his last two matches. Matz was also charged with another run after Genesis Cabrera allowed a runner he inherited from Matz to score in seventh. Matz hit seven and did not make a gait.

Basic stats: O’Neal hit twice and slipped in a double game before taking one hit on the ninth, his second hit in his last 19 hits. O’Neal has hit nine times in his last 16 hitters and 12 in his last 21 hits.

not worth anything Adam Wainwright scanned the pre-match COVID protocols and delivered the Bullpen session. It’s probably going to start on Saturday or Sunday…Paul DeJong joined the Memphis Redbirds in Norfolk and was 0 out of 3 with one walk, which came in front of Nolan Gorman’s house number 13 of the year…As expected Edmundo Sosa from COVID IL was activated before The match and Kramer Robertson brought back to Memphis… The Cardinals are 0-12 this season when they are behind after seven games.

I look ahead: Jordan Hicks will play Friday night the opening game of a three-game series against the Giants at Busch Stadium.
