Wellfield Park football stadiums in Venice to renovate the lawn

Venice – More than 600 young people are taking lessons in the game of soccer and life as members of the Venice Football Club – and the numbers are increasing annually, the club’s president David Jarvis told the Venice City Council on Tuesday.

All of these practices and games affected the three soccer fields in the city’s Willfield Park, Jarvis said, as a $25,000 patch mission was conducted on Field 2 for just 30 days before poor conditions made the nematode-infested field dangerous to play.

“When our fields got to the conditions they are today, they got to the point where they are now unsafe,” Jarvis said. “Our kids now break their ankles, they break their wrists.
