There are always some crazy quirks when it comes to the NFL schedule and this year is no different. The only weird thing about the quirks is that not all of them are created equal. Some teams will be happy about the dribbles on their schedule while many others won’t be thrilled with the dribbles that the league office offers.

So who’s got the craziest quirks? That’s a great question, let’s find out.

Here are 11 of the strangest quirks in the 2022 NFL schedule.

  • Bears will spend December at home. The Bears got a particularly unique scheduling feature: they don’t play a single road game during December, indicating This first happened to Bears since 1964. The Bears will play a home game against the Packers in Week 13 (December 4). They have a goodbye in Week 14 (December 11) and then follow up with a home match in Weeks 15 (December 18) and 16 (December 24). Although they play a road game in week 17, this game falls on January 1, which means they have zero road games in December.
  • Presidents are delivered a killer inaugural schedule. With their 2022 schedule, the Chiefs will become the first team in NFL history to open a season with eight games in a row against teams that finished above 0.500 the previous season (via Elias Sports Office). The stretch begins in the first week when they travel to Arizona and then continues until the ninth week. Here’s a look at the brutal eight-match challenge: at Cardinals, Chargers, at Colts, at Buccaneers, Raiders, Bills, 49ers, Bye, Titans.

  • Planes and crows with strange start at the table. The Jets will begin the season with every team in AFC North for the first four weeks Celebrating the first time Since the 1970 merger the Jets have played four consecutive games against the same division at any time in the season. At the end of the Ravens, the season will begin with four straight games against the AFC East, the first time they’ve opened the season against four teams of the same tier.
  • The leaders follow. The Leaders have a particularly unique feature in their schedule: they will play back-to-back matches against the Giants starting in Week 13. After playing on the road in New York this week, the Leaders will have a goodbye in Week 14 before playing host to the Giants in Week 15. This is the second time Since 1991 an NFL team has played back-to-back regular season games against the same opponent. However, the NFL is clearly more comfortable with the idea because the only other time it has happened in the past 30 years came last season with Brown facing the Ravens in back-to-back games.
  • Bumpy road to start the season. There are only three teams in the NFL that will play the first two games on the road this year and these teams are: The Buccaneers, Colts, and Patriots.
  • A rough way to end the season. On the other end of the spectrum, there are seven teams that will close out the season with two back-to-back games on the road, however, and only two of those teams will falter in playing two back-to-back games on the divisive path to closing the season: the Vikings and the Panthers.
  • Bye bye. Texas Hmm Three teams are coming off this year, which is the most in the NFL. This isn’t ideal because teams will have extra rest and warm-up time before playing Houston. On the other end of the spectrum, there are seven teams that will face a total of zero opponents bye: the Bills, the Lions, the Broncos, the Pirates, the Bosses, the Bears, the Leaders.
  • AFC West is the best. The four AFC West teams are currently scheduled to play a total of 19 primetime games in 2022, which is the second most in the Super Bowl era, According to NFL research. The only division with more peak games scheduled was the NFC East in 2015.
  • Week 14 Bye. The Hawks, Bears, Packers, Ponies, Saints, and Leaders have all landed in Farewell Week 14, which is notable for two reasons. First, it’s tied to the latest date given to any team since the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002. Teams seem to prefer getting a later goodbye and last season proved why: 2021 was the only time since 2002 that teams were given Week 14 Goodbye All four teams that received a goodbye that week ended the year with a winning record.
  • Three teams have stopped participating in the first season of “Thursday Night Football” on Amazon. This season marks the first time ever that Amazon will exclusively receive a Thursday Night package, and in the opening year, 29 of the league’s 32 teams will appear on Amazon Prime. The three don’t? Giants, Vikings and Lions. However, the three will be involved in Thursday’s game this year because all three will play on Thanksgiving.
  • A very long road trip. The Packers, Dolphins, Eagles and Chiefs all have one big thing in common this year: They’re the only teams in the league that have to play three road games in a row. While that’s not ideal, NFL teams that stumble on a three-game road trip in the schedule are 22-11 on those trips since 2018.

We hope you can impress all your friends this weekend with your curious knowledge of the NFL schedule.
