Buccaneers QB Coach Provides Major Update To Tom Brady’s Backup Competition

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Clyde Christensen stated in an interview that Kyle Trask will not be competing with Blaine Gabbert for the reserve quarterback. This development occurred after Tom Brady came back from retirement to join the Pirates.

Kyle Trask is the QB rookie drafted by the Buccaneers in the 2021 draft. Blaine Gabbert is the veteran QB second choice, behind Tom Brady.

Will Trask end up behind Tom Brady as QB’s second choice for the Buccaneers?

After Tom Brady announced his retirement in February, Trask was in pole position to compete with Gabbert for the role of QB in the Buccaneers. However, with Brady back, the first choice became clear.

Speaking to the media, Christensen stated that Trask would not challenge Jabert for the position. He said, “I think that [Trask] continues to progress. I’m glad we didn’t have to find out about the opening day this year. This gives us another year to further develop it.”

This means that the QB coach has gone with Gabbert’s expertise to complement Brady’s skill and experience, rather than Trask’s raw potential.

What’s next for Agent Trask?

Choosing Gabber is the most logical choice the Buccaneers coach could have made to increase their chances of success this season. It also means Trask will be out of the team, possibly for the entire season, unless there is an injury.

However, as Christensen said, this allows Trask to spend another year learning from the best in the sport and almost becoming a player more by the time he’s on the field, possibly next season.
