Giants vs. Cardinals – Game Summary – May 14, 2022

St. Lewis — Dakota Hudson and a quartet of loyalists combined to help the St. Louis Cardinals halt San Francisco’s six-game winning streak, defeating the Giants 4-0 on Saturday.

The Cardinals pitched the sixth closing of the season. The Los Angeles Angels started the day with a seven-time championship lead.

“You’re going to have to win ball games the way we did when we play well, play well in defence, make good decisions and score three or four runs,” said Cardinals coach Oliver Marmol. We hit it, but you still have to win ball games when you’re not feeling good. That’s what we did today.”

Double runs Molina, singles and score a run. He opened second with a double from the top of the right field wall for his 2128 career, which saw him overtake Mike Piazza for sixth place among the catchers.

St. Louis led 1-0 in fifth place when the Giants put the sprinters first and third by two. Molina sent off Jock Pederson in an attempt to steal second place to finish the inning.

“I have a good idea that they would love to do this,” Molina said. “I’m so glad we did this play so well. I’m so glad we did.”

Tommy Addiction won the Cardinals for the second time in seven games. St. Louis has played 10 consecutive games.

Hudson (3-2) does about five hits and walks twice in five innings. Guinness Cabrera, Andre Balante, Ryan Helsley and Giovanni Gallegos have teamed up for the final four roles.

“As much as it has been announced and who this season has been,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said of Hudson. “It’s a ball style. It’s an attack zone style. He did a great job of keeping us in balance, and we weren’t able to get the big hit.”

Helsley took charge of Pallante with bases loaded and one in seventh. He pushed Brandon Bildt into play twice to secure a 2-0 lead.

“That was huge,” Helsley said. “The rules are loaded in there, if he hits one goal, maybe two points, it will be a tie game. I was able to get a poor connection and get the double play ball.”

Helsley, making his debut since May 6, threw 15 2/3 in a row without goals going back to last August 7.

Jacob Gunness (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits and hit three in 5 2/3 innings in his second start of the season. San Francisco has lost nine of its last 12 games in St. Louis.

“As they all were, high quality,” Kapler said of the Jeunesse outing. “Lots of hits, good slider, gave us a chance to win the match.”

Edman’s fourth home run this season in season five gave the Cardinals runs in the top 10 in a row of the season.

Brendan Donovan Molina doubled home to lead early.

Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado hit the RBI double of former Cardinal John Pribbia for seventh.
