Happy First Official Day of Summer, Coda Country. I told my fiancée that yesterday and she said, ‘Wait, I thought it was summer already?’ We’ve had some good weather since the season ended, so it’s a fair point. To be honest, I knew it was the first day of summer only because my monthly planner said so.

Highs are expected in San Jose in the mid-1990s today and can reach 90 degrees on both sides of the hill in Santa Cruz. Beach day, anyone?

I want to start this blog by wishing all dads a Happy Late Father’s Day. I can say without a doubt, that I would not pursue my dreams of becoming a professional broadcaster without the unwavering support of my father, Bart. There was never a time in my life, and still is, I felt like I couldn’t follow my dreams. As a kid, he would attend nearly every sporting event I was at, and as an adult, he would listen to nearly every game. dad rock! Thank you pops for everything. Our family is growing by two feet, I mean two rinks. The City of Gilroy has formally approved a shark ice facility that will house two Gilroy ice sheets. Gilroy City Council voted unanimously on Monday night. Meaning once built, the Ice Shark facilities will be as north as Auckland and as south as Gilroy, and will include four separate sites, and a total of 12 ice sheets. Hockey is alive and well in the Bay Area!

Two different teams from the Pacific Division announced head coach appointments last week. LA Kings Officially Hired Alumni Sharks Marco Sturm To take over the AHL club, Ontario Reign. And just this morning (Tuesday, June 21) the former Stanley Cup winner was announced Dan Belsma He will be the first coach for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Bilsma spent last season as an assistant on the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, the joint affiliate of the Seattle Kraken and Florida Panthers. Byslma is no stranger to Golden State having played all 429 of his NHL games with the Mighty Ducks and Kings and even played in the IHL with the Long Beach Ice Dogs.

Sturm has served as an assistant coach for the Kings for the past four years, three of whom have been with former Sharks coach, Todd McClellan. Don’t forget that the Los Angeles General Manager is also a former shark, Rob Blake.

Sturm played 938 NHL games between San Jose, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, and Florida. 553 of those matches were played in teal. The German-born striker was selected by the Sharks in the first round (21st overall) of the 1996 NHL Draft and of course was part of Joe Thornton’s trade between the Sharks and Bruins.

The Calder Cup Finals are officially held between the Chicago Wolves (Carolina Hurricanes) and the Springfield Thunderbirds (St. Louis Blues), with the best-of-seven streak currently tied 1-1.
