Zach Gallen gets his start with the Diamondbacks, while Sean Manaea goes to the bump for the Padres.
Zach Gallen has a 2.91 ERA. During his first seven starts—playing the May 19 match against the Cubs in which he allowed one run in five rounds—Gallen had a 1.14 ERA. He was putting numbers on the level of Cy Young, although the only concern was that he wasn’t getting too deep into the games. He then gave up six runs in 5 rounds 1/3 against the Royal Family on May 24. Gallen allowed six runs in two of his last five starts. He has lost the unrelenting consistency he showed in the first month and a half of the season. It will be great to see how – and if – Galen can establish himself and maintain his era in a time span of less than three runs for the rest of the season.
Sean Mane has a 3.95 ERA. His ERA was 1.42 through three starts. Then, on April 24, the Dodgers rocked him for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings, sending his ERA to 3.47. Since then, Manaea has been involved in the ERA of nearly four runs. His age for May was 4.50. His age for June so far is 3.71. Manaea allowed three or more runs in seven of his last nine starts. However, on June 8, he went seven strong runs and only allowed one run against the strong and deep New York Mets, showing signs of a turning point may be present. Can he return to this level of performance??

Why Diamondbacks Can Cover Spreads
It is impossible to ignore the absence of Mane Machado from the Padres squad. Padres scored a mediocre four runs on Monday against the Diamondbacks, but that required a number of other San Diego players to advance. This will not happen in every game San Diego plays as long as Machado is removed from the strike charts. Zach Gallen is still a three-tiered jug. He can put clamps on this diminishing Padre lineup and give the Diamondbacks the leverage they need to win. Also, Sean Manaea simply wasn’t as good as San Diego had hoped for this season. He certainly hasn’t been as good as Gallen in his two months of playing this year.
Why Padres can cover the spread
After winning Monday night, the Padres know they can do well without Machado against the Diamondbacks — not against the elite team, but certainly against Arizona. The Diamondbacks excelled in April and early May, but have since fallen behind and played like the team everyone has been expecting to see this season: not very good. The Diamondbacks have a decent share, but their attack goes through long slacks, and the Padres managed to stop them on Monday in the first game of the series.
Selection and prediction of the ultimate Diamondbacks-Padres
With Mane Machado out, the Padres aren’t their natural selves. Keep in mind that Fernando Tates is already out and has not yet returned to this team. This makes Tuesday a distant game for bettors. If you insist on picking in this game, you can also take D-Backs as well as a run and a half, given how likely the Padres are to score a lot of kicks.
