Track the non-conference schedule 2022-23 as it takes shape

JUNE 21 – As Dayton releases its non-conference men’s basketball schedule simultaneously – usually in late July or early August – reports are pouring in on a few games before the official announcement.

Here’s a glimpse of the nine well-known games listed in the table. Four more games, all of which you’ll likely buy at UD Arena, have yet to be announced.

November 11 – Dayton vs. Southern Methodist at UD Arena: The Flyers and Mustangs will meet for a third consecutive season, making it four in a row in 2023 as UD travels to Texas.

SMU finished 24-9 last season and lost the top four scorers: Marcus Weathers (12.8); Michael Weathers (11.0); and Pandomel (10.6), who moved to Nebraska.

SMU’s 2022-23 roster includes seven new transfers: Keon Ambrose Hilton of Alabama, who was drafted into high school by Dayton. Xavier Foster of Iowa; Samuel Williamson in Louisville; Jefferson Coulibaly of Washington State. Mo Neji from eastern Michigan, who started his career in high school in Centerville; Effie Odege from Troy; and Ricardo Wright of Marist.

November 15 – Dayton vs UNLV at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada: This will be the first game between the Flyers and the Runnin’ Rebels.

UNLV finished last season 18-14, a first for coach Kevin Krueger. The Runnin’ Rebels are ranked 97th in the NCAA Rating Tool and 90th in the Ken Pomeroy Rankings. They last played in the NCAA Championships in 2013.

UNLV lost top three scorers from last season: Bryce Hamilton (21.8 points per game); Donovan Williams (12.7); and Royce Hamm (8.6). They added five transitions: Elijah Harkless (Oklahoma, 10.0); Jackie Johnson III (Dukin, 9.5); Elijah Parque (Colorado, 6.9); Luis Rodriguez (Ole Miss, 6.6); and Isaiah Cottrell (West Virginia, 4.2).

November 19 – Dayton vs. Robert Morris, at UD Arena: The Colonials have won a total of 12 games in their first two Horizon League seasons.

November 23-25 ​​- Battle 4 Atlantis, Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas: Dayton will play three games in three days during Thanksgiving week. Possible opponents are: KS; Tennessee. Southern California; North Carolina State; Wisconsin. Butler. and BYU.

Dayton played Kansas in their last two November tournament appearances, losing 90-84 in overtime to the Jayhawks in the Maui Invitational Championship game in 2019 and beating them 74-73 by hitting a bell by Mustafa Amzel last season in the semi-finals of the event call. ESPN in Florida.

Wyoming regains its top scorers: 6-foot-8 forward Graham Ike (19.5 points per game) and 6-7 guard Hunter Maldonado (18.5). The third-place finisher, 6-5 senior guard Drake Jeffries (10.3), elected not to return for an additional season of eligibility. Three more players return: Jeremiah Oden (7.8), 6-8 striker; 6-4 guards Xavier DuSell (7.5); And 6-7 goalkeeper Brendan Wenzel (5.2).

Date TBA – Dayton vs. Dayton will make the return trip this season. Hockey finished last season 23-13 and played the NCAA Championship for the fifth time in six years.

Virginia Tech returns two starters: Justyn Mutts (10.1 points per game) and Hunter Cator (10.0). Among his additions was Grant Basile’s transfer to the Wright State.
