Wearing walking boots, Denzel Ward didn’t cause some of the young footballers who questioned the Browns’ two-time Pro Bowl Thursday afternoon to pull any punches.
They showed as much mercy as Ward did on November 7 when he intercepted a pass from Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown en route to a 41-16 win, the climax of the Browns’ disappointing 8-9 season.
A foot injury sustained on June 16 on the last day of Brown’s mini-mandatory camp left Ward in protective boots and unable to work with children on the field during the Nike Football Skills Camp in St Vincent-St. Marie High School.
Ward described the injury to his left foot as painful when someone at the camp asked him about it during the drive.
Will he be alright at Brown’s boot camp?
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” Ward told the Beacon Journal later while riding in his car after his Akron appearance.
Will it be OK to start camp on July 27th?
“We’ll see,” said Ward, a Nordonia High School and Ohio State producer who signed a five-year, $100.5 million contract extension with Brown in April.
Denzel Ward is planning a trip for his Cleveland Browns teammates like Deshaun Watson and Miles Garrett.
Ward has been organizing a bonding journey for Brown’s defense appearance, similar to quarterback Deshaun Watson who commanded offense in the Bahamas and defensive end Miles Garrett for defensive players and quarterback in Miami.
“I’m planning something,” Ward said. “I’m preparing something. I’m not sure of the time frame yet, but it will happen.
“[It could be] During the season or maybe before the training camp depending on whether we got all the players back.”
In the midst of a discussion about vacation arrangements, NextGen Camps owner Jacob Bird Ward said they wanted the Beacon Journal’s questions to be about camp and not Brown — a request made a minute after a short interview.
But Ward proceeded to conduct a Brown-centric question-and-answer session with the kids present under the stadium stands after he and former NFL and Ohio State player Braxton Miller signed autographs and posed for photos.

Some of the questions from the kids were harmless, but the other campers, ages 8 to 18, questioned Ward about Watson’s legal status, quarterback Baker Mayfield and even The future of FirstEnergy ملعب.
“[Ward] He was great with the kids, especially the kid who asked him who’s your favorite quarterback,” said STVM soccer coach Terry Seston, who did on-court drills with other coaches at camp, including ex-NFL players and natives from Akron, Dillon Carter and Doran Grant.
“For [Ward] To come here, especially with his injury, the kids loved it.”
Siston said he believed 88 children attended the first three days of camp, and a large number of them asked Ward questions.
