Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign Dean Henderson on loan for the 2022/23 season.
The deal will not include an option for Forrest, who was promoted again to the Premier League through play-off matches last season, to buy the England international.
Henderson’s deal with United expires in 2025 after he signs a new five-year contract in 2020.
The 25-year-old enjoyed impressive loan spells at Sheffield United between 2018 and 2020, but struggled to dislodge David de Gea as the No. 1 at Old Trafford. Henderson played only four games for United last season, none of which were in the Premier League.
The goalkeeper’s arrival in the city is expected to speed up Bryce Samba’s move to Lens, with the French club entering advanced negotiations with Forrest for the goalkeeper.
Samba played a key role in Forest’s side during his promotion campaign and starred in their semi-final win over Sheffield United on penalties, but he has only one year left on his contract and is eager to return to France.
Henderson appears set to join him at Forest Taiwo Ooniyi after they met the £17.5m Union Berlin striker’s release clause.
The former Liverpool player – who scored 20 goals for the Etihad last season – underwent treatment with Steve Cooper’s side ahead of his highly anticipated arrival.

Ajax central defender Lisandro Martinez – who was a regular starter under Ten Hag last season – is a player United are also looking for. While the full-back is not currently a priority position, United are doing their due diligence in that area ahead of a potential departure.
