Morehouse will be director of the Amateur Shark Scout, to clarify the role of Fitzgerald

The San Jose Sharks have found a replacement for Doug Wilson Jr.

The Athletic reported today that Chris Morehouse, director of North American Scouts for the New York Rangers, will be named as the new director of Amateur Scouts in San Jose.

San Jose Hockey has now understood that the Sharks will hire a separate director of professional scouts.

Morehouse has been with the Rangers for the past two seasons. Prior to that, Morehouse served as Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting for the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2016 to 2019.

Morehouse began his NHL scouting career in 2012, first serving as a Blue Jackets amateur and professional scout.

Among the North American expectations that Morehouse helped craft with Rangers were Braden Schneider, Will Coyle and Brennan Usman.

New San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Greer was an advisor to Rangers this past season.

Two weeks ago, the San Jose Hockey League now reported that the San Jose Sharks had hired Scott Fitzgerald from the Boston Bruins. Most recently, Fitzgerald was the Chief Scout of Boston.

At the time, SJHN thought he would be the new amateur scouting manager, until Fitzgerald introduced himself as the new Sharks employee manager on LinkedIn.

San Jose Hockey has now understood that Fitzgerald will be involved in all areas of player assessment, from professional to amateur, and of course, NCAA prospects.

Longtime San Jose Sharks amateur scouts, Brian Gross (WHL) and Jill Cote (QMJHL) retired after the 2022 draft, so Grier will also have to fill their roles.

Previously, SJHN also reported that former San Jose Barracuda assistant Jimmy Bono had accepted the sharks’ offer to become a professional scout. Bono will focus on the eastern teams.
