Football start 2022 pre-season camp – LSU

Baton Rouge, no. After reporting to campus on Monday for team meetings, the LSU soccer team conducted its first two training sessions for the 2022 season on Tuesday (August 2). The 2022 Tigers feature 32 student-athletes and are led by Year Three coach Sian Hudson, who is emerging from an 11-8-3 season in 2021 that saw the program reach levels never seen before.

The day began at 8 a.m. as the first practice of the day was moved to the LSU indoor facility due to a thunderstorm in the area. Despite the shower, the Tigers enjoyed a strong opening practice before splitting for lunch and a treat and re-meeting for the second session of the day in the evening. All in all, LSU enjoyed a productive first day of pre-season.

The Tigers will have a week of training at LSU Soccer before heading to Texas for two exhibition games against the Baylor Bears (August 11) and the Houston Wildcats (August 14). After the fairs, the team will return to Baton Rouge in anticipation of the opening game against Stephen F Austin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 18.

A wealth of defensive experience for the Tigers returns with fifth-year seniors Shannon Cook and Lindsey Jennings preparing for their final season in collegiate football alongside fourth-year seniors Maya Gordon and Ramy Noel. These four players were four of nine off-field players who scored more than 1,000 minutes last season and they will look to lead the team this year from the back line.

First guard Molly Swift is back for her third season between the Purple and Gold positions. The 2021 season was his best yet for Swift, who started all 20 of his games for the Tigers and finished the year with eight lockouts, averaging 1.25 goals per 90 minutes. The 2022 roster includes 32 athletes, 11 of whom are newcomers to the team. Five countries are represented in the team (USA, England, Ghana, Iceland and Sweden). Cooke, Kelci Bowers, Brenna McPartlan and Tilly Wilkes descend across the pond, Wasila Diwura-Soale comes from Ghana, Ida Hermannsdottir is an Icelandic, and Angelina Thoreson is a proud Swede. Of the remaining 25 athletes, five are Louisiana and Texas nationals, while Florida and Colorado each have four. The remaining states, Arizona, Georgia, New York, Nebraska, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, have one representative on the team.
