The Canadian Hockey Organization said in a statement on Saturday that Michael Brende Amour told the board of directors Friday evening that he would be stepping down immediately.
The organization is under intense scrutiny for its handling of allegations of sexual assault against members of former junior men’s teams.
“I have listened carefully and attentively to the comments of Canadians about the culture of our sport and our organization, and about our actions and leadership,” Brindmore said in the statement. I understand that the actions we have taken in recent weeks are part of the solution.
My final term ends in November 2022, and I know there is no need to wait for a new era. Immediate action is necessary to address the important challenges facing our organization and our sport, and which our Action Plan is working to achieve.

Brindmore was elected Chairman of the Board in 2018.
The announcement comes after Hockey Canada appointed a former Canadian Supreme Court judge, Thomas Cromwell, to review the management of the country’s hockey governing body.
The review is expected to make provisional recommendations before Hockey Canada’s annual general meeting in November.
Bryndmore said he left his confidence that Cromwell taking on this work “will help us make the changes that are needed. I am confident that the recommendations will guide the organization into the future of change.”
Also, 13 regional hockey federations in Canada have requested an “extraordinary meeting” with the embattled national body.

Led by Hockey Quebec, the 10 Provincial Societies and the 3 Provincial Societies want more information about the handling of sexual assault allegations stemming from the 2018 Hockey Canada event in London, Ontario, with the participation of members of the Young Men’s Team.
Provincial and territorial assemblies have threatened to stop the payment without answers.
The organization said in its statement that the Board of Directors of Hockey Canada will meet in the coming days to determine the next steps after the resignation of Brendamor, and the appointment of an interim president.
The next election to the Board of Directors is scheduled for the November annual general meeting.
