Imagine camping in Fisker Ocean, sleeping under the stars in the back of an electric SUV, and staring in amazement through the glass roof.
Today in the Fiskerati forums we read about the idea of camping in the vicinity of Fisker. This is what inspired us to take a closer look at whether or not it is possible to camp in the vicinity of Fisker. Camping under the stars in electric cars is actually a thing. In fact, it has been promoted by companies that manufacture bedding designed specifically for electric cars.
Let’s go camping
We always thought it would be fun to go camping in our electric car for the weekend. A camping trip can be too much. It should be somewhere near the house, two hours away. Restrooms, showers, and maybe even a pool will be required!
About a year ago, we watched a YouTube video about camping in a Tesla Model 3. We’ve looked into it and there are a bunch of companies that make bedding specifically for the backs of Tesla cars. Before purchasing any mattress, we conducted a trial run in our garage.
We folded the rear seats down and climbed into the Model 3. We have plenty of room vertically to lie comfortably. The back of the Model 3 is approximately the length of a Twin XL mattress. However, the width of the vehicle made it difficult for more than two average-sized adults to fit comfortably. We came to the quick conclusion that the Model 3 would be too small for our family of three to go camping.
Next, we booked the Fisker Ocean, and recently pre-ordered the Ocean One launch vehicle. This morning when I checked the Fiskerati forums, the idea came back to my head. Camping in Fisker Ocean can be really fun at night to watch the stars with the glass roof. It doesn’t matter if you own an Ocean Extreme, Ultra or Sport, every Fisker Ocean comes with a glass roof that is good for stargazing.
Fisker background ocean measurements
This afternoon, we took a look at the back measurements of Fisker’s circumference. We wanted to compare it to our family’s current electric car of a Tesla Model 3. Of course this isn’t an apple and apple comparison, but our family doesn’t own a Model Y. However, we’ll soon have one Fisker Ocean, which is all sold out.
On the one hand, Fisker’s circumference trunk space is 20 cubic feet. When you fold the rear seats of the Fisker Ocean, the company says the space expands to 45 cubic feet. The Tesla Model 3, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of 19.8 cubic feet, and with the rear seats folded down it expands to 43 cubic feet. Now, the Fisker Ocean is 78.5″ wide compared to the Tesla Model 3, which comes in at 72.8″.
If you remember back to the Super Bowl, Fisker played with us. They asked, “How many footballs can you fit in a Fisker Ocean box with the rear seats folded down?” The answer was 213 footballs. That’s a lot of soccer balls! The company later shared a photo showing of a Fisker surroundings filled with soccer balls.
Our final thought
Fisker Ocean keeps the camping dream alive for our family. The Fisker Ocean electric SUV will save us a very small amount of space than our current electric vehicle. Also, it would give us a little more exposure for turbulent nights, tossing and turning, while camping under the stars. This extra offering may help our entire family squeeze the back of Fisker’s circumference. One thing is for sure, when we get the Fisker Ocean we’ll take accurate measurements and go do another experiment in our garage. Let us know in the comments if you plan on taking Fisker Ocean camping.
