Ted Lasso is still working his magic on NBC’s Premier League coverage

Ted Lasso, Premier LeagueWhether you enjoy TV series Ted Lasso Whether on Apple TV+ or not, it’s hard to ignore the impact it’s had on mainstream America. With seven Emmys to his name, it’s easy to forget that the show started in 2013 as a series of TV commercials to promote NBC’s coverage of the Premier League.

“When we got the rights to the Premier League in 2013, I think we all knew the public perception of an American football fan,” explained Pierre Mossa, Producer, Premier League Coverage Coordinator, Pierre Mossa. “It wasn’t an exact perception, but it was the perception.

And the genesis of Ted Lasso To have a little fun, have a little fun by ourselves, and at about the same time spread awareness about the Premier League. The man who created it took that and ran with it, and it became something that eventually set the tone for our coverage in many different ways.”

What has become the TV series Ted Lasso has been a good sense during the depths of the COVID-19 lockdown. The show delved into the character of the lasso, and expanded on what made him so likable. He wasn’t just the goofy American coach who knew nothing about football.

Rebecca Lowe takes on Ted Lasso

When I asked World Soccer Talk this week NBC Sports presenter Rebecca Lowe about the impact of Ted Lasso, her answer was revealing.

“It’s so much fun for me because I have a bunch of moms at school who, if you like, don’t care about football other than their kid playing it, but they all watch Ted LassoLowe explained. And suddenly they know what I do for a living. They say, “Oh my gosh, this is the game you go in and do it.”

“Honestly, if there’s anything that can help us spread the word about the beautiful game and get our coverage going, we’ll take it. We’re working towards doing it ourselves, but Ted LassoNot only are we so proud of it being something we started all those years ago, Pierre said, and then it all went viral twice, eventually leading to a TV show. We are very proud to be associated with that.”

Future cross-promotion between Ted Lasso and NBC Sports?

Although NBC Sports did not participate in Ted Lasso TV series, and the show has benefited from NBC’s coverage of football, and vice versa. In the first two seasons of the TV series, it featured images from former NBC football commentator Arlo White.

With season three of Ted Lasso slated to release this fall, we asked Moossa if there’s a possibility that other NBC Sports talents will appear on the show.

Moses replied, “You may or may not see our colleagues in the upcoming episodes.”

The answer wasn’t definitive, leaving out the possibility of a star like Louie in an upcoming episode.

Ted Lasso’s lasting impact on the Premier League

When mainstream America watches Ted Lasso, it won’t automatically convert them to Premier League viewers on NBC Sports. However, it does put the Premier League in their consciousness. While it may not translate to more viewers for NBC Sports, it is a building block of a strong foundation. It can increase awareness of the league’s brand, as well as help explain the concept of key topics such as promotion/relegation as well as how important a football team is to its community.

No doubt about it Ted Lasso It was a win for both NBC Sports and Apple TV+. Season 3 is expected to be its last, so let’s hope it comes out with great fanfare.
