2022 Poll Series: Houston Astros at Baltimore Orioles

Quick Notes

The Astros arrive in Baltimore in a final road series for the regular season, this time against the Rookie Orioles. For the second series in a row, there will be a motivating factor in favor of Houston’s opponent as the O sits just 4 games away from third place in the Wild Card in AL. Although the odds of them actually going up and claiming the October moors are rapidly dwindling, especially when considering the quality of their opponents, Baltimore is not out of the fray just yet.

They will have to do this against some very tough customers. After four games against the Astros, they will conclude the regular season with three more series against El East opponents, including one against the Yankees and Blue Jays. Things fizzle out a bit with a four-game streak against the Red Sox, but other than that, it’s a challenge until October for the O’s.

But, if they can’t, this team is something Baltimore believers can be proud of and hope for. The Orioles looked like a lifeless husk for a baseball team for several seasons to come through 2022, and they turned it into a legitimate threat in October. Two more pieces were added over the winter and it looks like this team will be ready to compete on one of the toughest teams in baseball.

Meanwhile, the Astros can pretty much creep through the rest of the season if they’re very inclined. Sitting at 99 wins, they’ve already closed in on AL West bye to the Wild Card Tour. The only thing left on the table is locking up the number one seed in AL, and in the unlikely event of the Dodgers’ spiraling season ending, perhaps all of MLB. O’s has a slightly better shot at the WC faltering spot than the Astros hunting Dodgers, just to give you perspective.

However, this should be a fun series as Houston looks to maintain its record and turn it into another dominant season to win more than 100 baseball games. While they will certainly have practice on their eye in October, I wouldn’t be surprised to see many freshmen getting a rest as 2022 approaches the end of us all gearing up to witness baseball glory in baseball.
