Former McLaren mechanic makes comparison between Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton

Kimi Raikkonen could have won multiple F1 world titles if he had advanced himself like Lewis Hamilton, according to former McLaren mechanic Mark Priestley..

“The Iceman” ended up being one of the most popular drivers on the grid during his long F1 career, racking up more than 300 Grand Prix races.

Back then, he was driving for the likes of McLaren and Ferrariwith a dramatic title win again in 2007, beating his sparring teammates Fernando Alonso and Hamilton to the Brazilian Grand Prix crown.

He would have come close to the championship in other years as well, namely in 2003 and 2005 when he was driving for McLaren, and many thought in 2005 he should have won the title, but the car he had was very fragile, despite being superior. fast.

However, he will go down as Formula 1 world champion and no one can take that away from him, although Priestley believes Kimi could have had more success in his career if he had adopted the approach taken by Hamilton.

“Kimi was the fastest during his day,” he told the Pit Stop podcast.

“But Kimi was far from being the most complete driver in Formula 1. He won a world championship, you can’t fire him, but he only won one.

“And I firmly believe, and he had no desire to do so, that if he had presented himself as Lewis Hamilton, he could have gone on to win many world championships.

“For Kimi, he loved being behind the wheel and everything else about Formula 1 he hated. He couldn’t stand it, he just wanted to drive.”
