When news came out that the NBA was suspending Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver for a year and fined him $10 million after investigating his behaviour, many criticized the ruling. Once again, Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James, was at the forefront of the speakers.
LeBron immediately took to social media, speaking of his belief that the NBA misjudged and that Sarver should not be allowed to remain as owner of the Suns. Many others will also speak out similarly after reports of racism, sexism and misogyny emerged around Sarver and public outrage appears to have paid off.
It was announced Wednesday that Sarver will begin the process of selling the Suns as well as the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury. James will again Go to social mediapraising the NBA for the move:
I am so proud to be part of a league committed to progress! https://t.co/c89Ad7AKZO
– LeBron James (@KingJames) September 21 2022
The evidence released against Sarver after the investigation was truly troubling. He reportedly used the N-word at least five times, and a number of obscene and sexist incidents were also reported. With the NBA acting quickly after Donald Sterling’s racism case, many wanted the same for Sarver and LeBron was one of many who pushed for it.
As LeBron said, there is simply no place for this type of behavior within the NBA and owners must be held accountable for their words and actions. The league keeping Sarver in place would have been a shocking look to a league that fought against these kinds of things. The likes of Draymond Green and even current Suns goalkeeper Chris Paul have also spoken of feeling the initial decision was a mistake.
But now the process has begun and both Suns and Mercury will soon get new ownership as the league moves away from Robert Sarver.
LeBron happy to see Schroeder back in Lakers
As far as the Lakers are concerned, they are still putting together their roster before starting boot camp.
Their most recent addition was their reunion with Dennis Schroeder where they brought back the base in a one-year deal. While Schroeder’s first stint with the Lakers did not go as planned, James expressed his delight at the return of his old teammate.
