2022 Ironman Chattanooga Ironman starts this weekend; Drivers anticipate traffic and road closures | local news

Here’s what will be closed and what drivers should expect during the Ironman Chattanooga weekend.

These roads and intersections will be closed until 8pm on Monday, September 26th for Ironman preparation, racing and removal.

– Riverside Rd/Riverfront Parkway between Aquarium Way and Molly Lane.

Chestnut Street between Aquarium Way and Riverfront Parkway.

– Power Alley from the parking lot to the Riverfront Parkway.

– Veterans Bridge ramp south to Riverside Road.

– Riverside Rd/Riverfront Parkway between Aquarium Way and Molly Lane.

Chestnut Street between Aquarium Way and Riverfront Parkway.

– Power Alley from the parking lot to the Riverfront Parkway.

– Veterans Bridge ramp south to Riverside Road.

September 25 – Race Day

The intersections of St Elmo Avenue and Virginia Avenue on West 45th Street will be on 4-way from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 25 for the Ironman bike segment.

All streets crossing these roads will be controlled by Chattanooga Police officers:

– Eastbound right lane from Riverfront Parkway between Molly Lane and Market Street.

– Right lane heading south to Market Street between West 20th Street and West 40th Street.

West 40th Street between Alton Park Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue.

– I-24 on a ramp and a southbound ramp on Market Street.

Cyclists will also be on Tennessee Avenue and St. Elmo Avenue up to the state line, biking with traffic.

All streets crossing these roads will be controlled by Chattanooga Police officers from 12:25 p.m. Sunday – 1:00 a.m. Monday to give right-of-way to runners for the Iron Man running portion:

– Eastbound right lane of Fraser Street between Forest Avenue and Veterans Bridge.

The north-right lane of Barton Street between Fraser Street and Baker Street.

– Northbound right lane of the Veterans Bridge between East Third Street and Barton Street.

– Westbound right lane of Amnicola Highway between Old Curtain Pole Road and Lindsay Street.

– Riverside Road between Lindsay Street and Molly Lane.

Putting the battery away from the slope of Riverside Drive.

Aquarium Road between Riverside Drive and Walnut Street.

Parking/Shuttle:

The free CARTA Electric Shuttle Downtown bus will operate on a modified schedule on Sunday, September 25th between CARTA Shuttle Park South (in Chattanooga Choo Choo) and Shuttle Park North (Aquarium/IMAX).

The first shuttle buses will start at 4:00 am and depart every 5-10 minutes. The last shuttle will leave at 12:20 AM on Monday, September 26th.
