Former Kentucky Wildcats break ESPN’s ranking of the 100 best NBA players

The Kentucky Wildcats have one of the best programs in the country when it comes to developing talent of NBA caliber. They have consistently turned five-star recruits into some of the best players in the country.

With the NBA season starting to climb and pre-season starting soon, ratings will be plentiful, and ESPN has released its list of the top 100 players in the league.

They started it off by releasing 75 players from #26 to #100. The Cats had a lot of players, as expected.

The first name seen on the pass is Julius Randle who was number 71. Randle is the star of the New York Knicks, a team that has been a perpetual disappointment, especially this past season. The Nicks also have Emmanuel Quikley.

After Randall was hit star Tyler Hero who had some commercial rumors surrounding a potential coup with Donovan Mitchell this off season. Herro came in 61st, and like Randle, he’s lost quite a few points since his last off-season roster.

Diaron Fox 55th, Jamal Murray 50th, Shay Gilgus Alexander 48th and Teresa Maxi 44th were the four who rounded out the group.

My quick thoughts are that Maxey is pretty loud, and the unknowns surrounding Murray make his ranking a surprise. What Maxi Postseason showed and what Murray showed in the bubble will likely remain in the minds of those who make up the list.

The SGA averaged 24.5 points per game and showed increasing leadership in Oklahoma City, so I was hoping he would outshine the top 40. With a good roster around him, he could easily be a top 25 player in the NBA.

After Maxey, there are 20 more No Cats. However, there were several players who made it into the top 25, starting with Bam Adebayo at number 23. Adebayo has become one of the most versatile players on both sides of the ball.

It’s the kind of position every team needs and it’s starting to change the way the NBA views the Five. He is always the Defensive Player of the Year candidate and has an improved offensive game.

After Pam Anthony Davis became 20th. He was No. 9 a season ago but struggled so hard to stay on the field. He averaged 23.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game but played in only 40 games.

The last two players on the list were former Wildcat teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Devin Booker, coming in 13th and 10th, respectively. KAT might be the best big-man shooter ever, having won a 3-point competition.

However, with the rise of Anthony Edwards, it might be time for the wolves to actually make some noise. They took the Memphis to 6 games last season which is significant, but Minnesota will need to keep track of that, and KAT will have to make it happen.

Booker was the best Wildcat on the list, only within the top ten. After being in the NBA Finals and losing to the Bucks in the 2020-2021 season, last season was a disappointing result for the higher-ranked Western team, as they lost to the Mavericks in the Conference semi-finals.

In his seventh season in the league, Booker averaged 26.8 points walk and 5 rebounds per game. He’s turned into a do-it-all player who engages his teammates and is a sniper from the depths. Booker could be among the top five players next season.
