Reports that James Dolan might sell the New York Rangers and the New York Knicks began to spread rapidly after the Boyar Value Group’s Jonathan Boyar appeared on CNBC’s Closing Bell additional this week.
While discussing Madison Square Garden Sports’ inventory, he noted that upon completion of the MSG Sphere in Vegas, there was a possibility.
“We think it’s likely that after this is done, James Dolan, who controls the company, will sell the teams,” he said. Boyar said. “What is interesting is that private equity has been heavily involved. It would not surprise us to flag one or both teams if private equity takes a stake.”
New York Rangers are not for sale
This is not the first time that James Dolan has been speculated and talked about selling teams. Rumors of him seeking to sell Rangers go back years and had to be refuted at the time as well.
Yesterday afternoon, we spoke with a reliable source who indicated that there is a “less than zero chance” of moving the Dolan Rangers.
Later in the evening, a senior MSG executive reached out to Forever Blueshirts and other sites providing comment on the story. “We have no plans to sell either team,” the letter read clearly.
As expected, all articles regarding the potential sale have been updated to reflect these comments.
Junior World Championship schedule
The quarter-finals are set for Wednesday as the Junior World Championships continues in Edmonton.
Team Canada and their potential New York Rangers trio face Switzerland. They are considered an overwhelming favorite after being undefeated in playing the role of Robin.
Finland will face Germany in a favorable match.
It’s possible that two other potential Rangers will meet tomorrow at Brett Berrard for Team USA, possibly Jaroslav Schmilar of Team CZECH. The latter missed the last match due to injury after Brennan Othman appeared in the skate and cut Shmilar, who hit him from behind. The Czech winger may have gotten away with discipline by the IIHF in that play but cutting his face could keep him out of this competition.
Adam Sikora and Slovakia did not qualify for elimination play. Austria was sent home early.
