SKYPASS Select a Visa Signature® card* Against the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card (conditions apply. See rates and fees) is another premium co-branded travel card. Although both cards offer airline-specific benefits, SkyMiles Reserve is likely a better offer. For a higher annual fee of $550, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card has the potential for higher earning potential for Delta flights and a wide range of benefits, although the price for other non-Delta flights is dim.
The card earns 3 miles per dollar on Delta purchases and 1 mile per dollar on all other eligible purchases. However, with the Delta Reserve Card, you’ll also get free access to the Delta SkyClub and Centurion Lounge, which equals more than the card’s annual fee. This may make this card even more valuable for those seeking constant access to the lounge. The SkyPass Select Card offers only two KAL cards per year.
SKYPASS Select a Visa Signature® card* In exchange for the Platinum® Card from American Express
The Platinum Card from American Express (conditions apply. See rates and fees) has some of the most comprehensive premium travel benefits you’ll find with the card. For a whopping $695 annual fee, the card earns 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar for flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel up to $500,000 per calendar year, and 5 points per dollar on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel and 1 point per dollar on other eligible purchases.
Perks include lounge access to the Centurion network, Priority Pass, Delta Sky Club, and more, plus TSA PreCheck/Global Entry application fee credits (up to $100), up to $200 annual airline petty cash statement credit, and annually up to $200 Prepaid dollar hotel fee credit and more. Anyone who can maximize the various credits that are offered with Amex Platinum can exit before the annual fee. Registration is required for select benefits.
The card earns Membership Rewards points from Amex, a highly flexible currency that can be used to book travel or transfer to multiple travel remittance partners to increase potential value.
SKYPASS Select a Visa Signature® card* Against a Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card
Price-wise, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card can be a solid choice for your wallet if you frequently travel to and from cities served by Southwest. The Southwest Priority Card earns 3 points per dollar on Southwest purchases, 2 points per dollar on local transportation and commuting including rideshare, 2 points per dollar on internet, cable, phone, and select air services and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. When it comes to perks, cardholders get four free upgraded trips each year, an annual credit of 7,500 points in memory of your card membership, $75 an annual travel credit and a host of travel protections and insurances.
But the most attractive feature of the card is that all the points you get from the card work towards the Southwest Companion pass, which is one of the best perks in the travel game. This card allows you to choose one person to fly with you, with no airline fee (excluding $5.60 one-way taxes and fees). Travel 100 qualifying round trips or earn 125,000 qualifying points in a calendar year and you’ll get a Companion Pass for the next full calendar year, plus the rest of the year you earned it. If you travel regularly, this is not a benefit to be overlooked.
