Golf fans were disappointed with coverage on the first day of the 2022 Presidents Cup. While commercial breaks are part of most major sporting broadcasts, such raft shots are missed with only 10 balls in play across the Quail’s five quads. Hollow, leaving many confused and taking to social media to express their frustration.
It’s not a new swipe to press on the PGA Tour, but in regular events with up to 156 players, losing some movement is inevitable. However, in the biennial Ryder Cup tournament, with only five games, 20 players and 10 balls to follow on Thursday, it seemed to show just how low the standards were.
Here are some of the best reactions on social media…
I will need more of this if the commercial load continues like this. Sooooo much work missing. pic.twitter.com/lyrXHq3Au2September 22 2022
Shocking pictures from the United States more than ever. It doesn’t look more obvious than a quad when there are very few golf balls on the field. It’s eight now, and we’re still only getting a small part of the story. malice.September 22 2022
Today’s President’s Cup contains 10 balls to play. Too many commercials, very poor coverage. I watched like 5 shots from the last group besides clicking in the hits. There was a drivable 4 bar and they showed one ball there. Below average coverage at bestSeptember 23, 2022
It’s really hard to stress how poor Finau/Homa vs. Pendrith/Pereira coverage is. Three games on the track and they missed the first and second hits from both teams in 16. The game is tied! What are we even doing here!?September 22 2022
The amount of commercials in this Presidents Cup coverage is ridiculous. You can only watch a couple of shots before they go to the commercial or play through it, and you can barely see what’s going on.September 22 2022
The Presidents Cup has become a horrific event. Almost as bleak as Foxtel’s coverage somehow managed to miss shots when there were only six players on the track.September 22 2022
This cry will surely be of great concern to the PGA Tour Chiefs as they look to reassert their position at the pinnacle of men’s professional golf. One of the ways LIV Golf has committed to the masses is through ad-free coverage on YouTube featuring the likes of Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.
These are just some of the biggest names in golf that Jay Monahan and Sawgrass HQ can no longer count on to attract an audience of spectators. The cause of the PGA Tour certainly wasn’t helped by a disastrous start to Trevor Immelman’s international, as Team USA opened a solid 4-1 advantage.
It was one-sided, in fact, from 83 holes played, the international team led a game only after three of them. The five head-to-head football matches have been announced on Friday as visitors aim to get back to the competition.
