Located along Great Yarmouth’s Golden Mile, Ocean Hotel welcomes guests to its new private dining restaurant: Jan.
It launched on November 14 and is open seven nights a week, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, for those looking for a more “intimate” dining experience.
This is the hotel’s latest expansion – following the opening of the Ocean Café in July 2020 – by owners Daniel Burt and James Docwra.
The couple said the restaurant – which was named after Bert’s grandmother – had an “amazing” first week.
Mr Burt said: “We never intended to open the restaurant downstairs, but our customers and guests have been so pleased and pleased with what we offer at Café Ocean, they have asked us for something more elaborate.
“So we decided to take a shot at it and go for it. It was early September and the renovation was complete by the end of October.”
The style is based on 1920s Art Deco but with a modern twist.
“It’s adults only and only seats 22 because we wanted to create a very intimate space with a classy finish all the way through.
“Guests will also have a table all evening.”
From seared halibut to slow-cooked pork belly and dry-aged 60-day steak, Mr. Burt said they only use the freshest, seasonal ingredients and there’s a new menu every week.
Reservations are also now being taken for Christmas parties, with the option to rent the entire restaurant for private use.
The hotel also recently got four stars from AA and Mr Burt said their rooms were fully booked over the holidays.
He added, “We initially intended to open a small daytime café with some bedrooms above it and it has turned into a beast of a business.
“We also thought it would be seasonal but we have seen demand all year round.
“December is fully booked and we have a lot of returning clients and guests.
“It’s really cool and beautiful. It’s turned into something a little bit special.”
“We’re really proud. But it’s also down to our hardworking, committed and amazing team.”
The company was also recently named to the 2022 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.
