Could Logan Sargent be the first American Formula 1 star after Netflix?

Did your friends think it was weird that you were such a fan of Formula 1, that you were willing to uproot your life for it?

Yeah, I don’t think they had any idea what it was like, to be honest. But nowadays, ever since Netflix’s Drive to Survive — which *seems to have a very American audience–I get a lot of questions from my friends back home about the sport. I’ve noticed a huge shift, and that’s been really positive for Formula 1 in general.

may be in campaign to survive the next year as one of the stars of the show.

Yes I hope so!

Former Americans trying to get into Formula 1 had mixed feelings about moving to Europe, especially those living in London. How did you enjoy your time there?

I wasn’t a huge fan of him when I was younger, but as I got older, he got bigger than me.

I don’t know about an out of town thing, but in London, it’s the food truly Good. Atmosphere? Yes, that’s a struggle, especially in the winter months — the ones we’re heading into now, sadly — because it’s not always the best. You just have to stick to it and deal with it.

You are the first American to compete in Formula 1 since 2015, and now the sport finally has a huge fan base in the United States. Do you feel any extra pressure as the only American on the grid?

Obviously, I want to represent America and make it proud. But at the same time, it’s all done in preparation. If you’ve prepared well, you’ve done everything you can to perform to the best of your abilities. I have high expectations, and I push myself enough that I don’t really feel much outside pressure.

I’ve had the stars and stripes on my helmet forever, so I plan on just being myself, having fun with it, and taking it one step at a time.

Williams is a storied team, but they have struggled in recent years. What are your realistic expectations for the next season?

I haven’t quite thought about it, since this is still so new, but I expect to be competitive. And at the end of the day, the best person to compare yourself to is your teammate.

I would say, right now, the goal is to prepare as best I can, mentally and physically, and put the work through the rest period. That’s the process, and we’re going to work on it every single day leading up to the first race of the season.

We have three races in the US next year in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas. Do you already have those circled on your calendar?

Yes, this track in Miami is near the house I grew up in, so that’s pretty cool. And Vegas would be totally crazy, too.

There will probably be a lot of Americans rooting for you at those races, and they will get to know you more as the season goes on. What is your message to your new fans?

Just that I will leave no stone unturned. You will get the best of me next year.
