EMU women’s golfer Gabriella Tapp adds for the 2023-24 campaign

Ypsilanti, Michigan. (EMUEagles.com) – President of Eastern Michigan University Women’s Golf Coach Stephanie Jennings Announced today, November 22nd, that Gabriella Tap (South Lyon, Mitch-South Lyon) He will join the Eagles for the 2023-24 season.“As an individual champion and two-time Michigan high school runner-up, Gabriela Tabb has all the key ingredients to move our golf program closer to our goal of the Mid-American Championship,” said Jennings. “Her athleticism on the track and demeanor off the track are also traits that make Gabriela an eagle from the start. With her personal drive to succeed and our team’s determination to strive for the best, I can only see great things coming for the future of our program.”

Tapp completed one of the most decorated careers in Michigan High School Collegiate Athletic Association (MHSAA) history in 2022. The Southern Lyon product was crowned the 2019 and 2021 Division II individual champions while also being runner-up in 2022 and finishing sixth. place in 2020.

Tapp, a four-year competitor and two-year captain of the Lions, set school records for an 18-hole (66), nine-hole par (31), 18-hole scoring average (72.3), and nine-hole scoring average (36.2). She was named to the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches (MIGCA) Division II All-State Team three times. Tabb added to her list of accolades when MIGCA named her to the Super 8 team, which consists of the top eight golfers in the state, regardless of split.

Tapp began playing golf at the age of nine when her parents signed her up for private lessons at Eagle Crest Golf Club. Fast forward to today, and Tapp is arguably the best high school girls golfer in Michigan. Her resume continues to grow since she won the state title in 2019.

Southern Lyon has qualified for the state tournament 14 consecutive seasons but did not win its first team title until Tapp’s sophomore year in 2020. The Lions finished second in both 2019 and 2022, while finishing third in 2021.
