Everything BJ Flick said before Wisconsin

Minnesota coach BJ Flick: “I think looking at the West, everyone has a chance in the West, not just us. Every team has a chance at winning the West at some point outright and running away with it. That’s what makes the West so competitive. But the par is so close between every team in that division.” Northwestern had a chance to win the game last week.I mean, the par is unbelievable.

There are some things we look back on that will always circle a play or two. But none of us wanted that to happen. You know how it happened, but it happened and you should be grateful for that. If you are grateful for your life. You can’t pick and choose what you’re grateful for. Either you are grateful for your life or not. Be it tragedy or suffering. You have to be grateful for these things. And that’s what’s very difficult because we’re getting over the loss that we’re running into the wind and that’s part of your job and your role. But when you’re grateful for your life and you’re grateful for your team and you’re grateful for the players, then you have to be grateful for the suffering, too. You should be grateful for the things and lessons it will teach you.

I’m not saying we’re happy, we lost. But there are a lot of lessons that follow. There is one person who said give me the ball, and he is Muhammad, and we gave him the ball. He fumbled four times in 800 carries all. This is not his fault. Nobody plays the game to lose you. We have a lot of opportunities. We had a missed field goal there.

But Andy (Grider) asked me a question after the game, and I apologize that I didn’t understand your question at that time. I wasn’t sure which 3 and 1 you were talking about, but about that before going into the first half. Everyone on the field knew we were going to run this soccer ball, run around naked, and have two people wide open. We got a touchdown, which is why we called it the drop. Unfortunately, we were unable to implement.

And then the next play, because we couldn’t get it to work, we needed points. And I don’t get into something I don’t think we’ll ever get. I wouldn’t send a field goal unit, if I didn’t think. Then we lost that, going down 10-7. We go out next time. We had to get points in that opening campaign. You all know how important that is to me. We got points on that opening. It’s 10-10, and here we go. And our defense was playing very well after conceding the first ten points.

And then there are two huge drivers, we have important chances and great chances to score and we haven’t. This is what happens in competitive games. You must give them a lot of credit. They are a really good football team.”
