76ers vs. Hornets – NBA Game Recap – November 24, 2022

CHARLOTTE, NC — Terry Rozier scored nine of his 22 points in the last 5 minutes as the Charlotte Hornets edged past the Philadelphia 76ers 107-101 Wednesday night in a game between injury-plagued teams.

Charlotte, trailing by 13 points at halftime, won for only the second time in 13 games and finished with three rounds.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Rosier was taking a heavy load because of injuries to starting guard LaMelo Ball and others.

“He’s not getting a lot of easy shots because of the situation right now,” Clifford said. “He plays long minutes and has a lot of responsibility. But he took over there in the fourth quarter.”

Philadelphia was playing without three starters – Joel Embiid, James Harden and Therese Maxie – but got solid efforts from Shake Milton, De’Anthony Melton, Montrezl Harrell and Tobias Harris.

Milton scored 22 points, Milton 20, Harris 19 and Harrell 16 for Philadelphia. Harrell was playing in Charlotte for the first time since that franchise let him leave via free agency last summer.

The Sixers were coming off a home win Tuesday night over Brooklyn.

“I thought we played great,” said Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers. “Honestly, I think I ran out of gas. I haven’t seen anything negative we can say about this game.

“In honesty to God, I think we played tough. I mean in the first quarter we had 33 points. Since then, we’ve lost a lot of shots that can be taken, and that’s going to live with it.”

PJ Washington finished with 19 points, Kelly Ober had 14 and Nick Richards had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Charlotte.

Rozier’s 3-pointer late in the first half pulled Charlotte inside 54-53 at the break.

After Charlotte led by as many as five points in the third quarter, the Hornets used Rosier’s late blast to pull away.

Rozier’s 15-footer with 4:46 remaining put the Hornets ahead 93-84. The 76ers came within 99-97, but Rosier hit another birdie with 1:35 remaining to put Charlotte ahead by four.

The Hornets lost the ball and Division I reserve Cody Martin, and guard Dennis Smith Jr. was knocked out in the second quarter with a sprained ankle.

“That’s what we’re dealing with right now,” said Rozier, who is among three Hornets starters who missed games with injuries. “Unfortunately, we deal with a lot of injuries. Dennis went down again. It’s hard to see but you can’t control things like that.

“I just want to do the best I can and whatever the coach needs me to do.”
