All Credit Card Points Transfer Rewards are currently available

American Express, Chase, Capital One, and Citi offer credit cards that earn transferable rewards. These points and miles can be transferred to various airline and hotel loyalty programs to redeem them for flights and hotel rooms. You’ll often get more bang for your buck when redeeming this way than directly redeeming through the card’s travel portal or cashback – especially when booking luxury flights and luxury hotels.

In general, most credit card rewards are converted at a 1:1 ratio, although there are some exceptions. However, from time to time card issuers offer bonuses where you can earn extra points as you convert them. Think of it like discounting a flight or a hotel stay because you use fewer points.

Below, detail all the credit card transfer rewards currently available and what you need to know about earning transferable rewards. Note that some conversion bonuses may be targeted, which means that not all card members will be eligible. In addition, some promotions may require prior registration.

How to transfer credit card points

No matter which rewards program you use, the conversion process is nearly identical. To get started, log into your credit card online portal and head to the rewards page. From there, you should see the Transfer Points section.

On that page, there will be a list of loyalty programs that your credit card issuer participates in. Select the airline or hotel loyalty program you wish to transfer your points to, provide your membership number for that loyalty program and begin the points transfer process.

Most conversions must be in multiples of 1,000 points with a minimum of 1,000 points. Depending on the program and the partner, you may need to pay a small tax fee to complete the transfer.

Things to keep in mind when transferring points

If you have a credit card with convertible miles, you’re in a great position to earn some of the most valuable rewards in the credit card space. However, keep these four things in mind when you recover:

  • Don’t transfer it until you’re ready to spend it. Plan your entire trip or hotel stay so you know exactly how much you’ll need. Point transfers cannot be reversed.
  • Point transfers can take some time. In some cases, it can be immediate, while in others, it can be momentary for a few days.
  • Consider alliances with airlines. For example, if you have Capital One miles and want to fly on Delta, which is not a carrier partner, you can transfer your points to Flying Blue and book a Delta flight since Air France/KLM is part of the SkyTeam alliance with Delta.
  • Spend your points, don’t store them. Hoarding points leaves you at a disadvantage in the event of a devaluation from the rewards program. In addition, you can become a target for hackers who aim to steal your points. In fact, it has happened to me twice.

minimum

Conversion Rewards are a great way to increase the value of your points when you use them for flights and hotel stays. While we don’t recommend transferring points unless you have a specific redemption in mind, you shouldn’t hoard them either. It doesn’t do you any good to keep a tally of points – if you don’t spend your points (strategically), you miss the point.
