Offensive Player of the Week: QB Spencer Rattler, South Carolina Gamecocks

Rattler has had a checkered college career but is doing what he can to turn it into a rebounding story for South Carolina in 2022. His historic performance against top five teams in Tennessee in Week 12 started the resurgence.

Rattler had a 93.1 PFF grade for 433 yards and a six touchdown performance against the Volunteers – a high of his 2022 campaign.

The former five-star recruit displayed elite arm talent that once made him the Heisman Trophy and first-choice overall favorite, hitting five big throws in total time and plays worth no turnover.

His accuracy and ball placement were stellar throughout, as he pulled off a 78% passing accuracy rate against Tennessee, the fifth-highest in a game this season among Power Five players who have touched down at least 40 times.

Defensive Player of the Week and Real Player of the Week: CB Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

For the second time in three weeks, Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison went home as the true Freshman of the Week. And the Defensive Player of the Week honors. At just 18 years old, he has established himself as a rising star in one of the toughest situations in football.

Morrison had a two-week-old performance against Clemson with two interceptions in the upset win, one of which was a pick six. This week, the true freshman topped that with three interceptions and allowed one grab in the win over Boston College.

He saw a total of six touchdowns against the Eagles and only slid once for a gain of 32 yards, but the three interceptions helped make up it on its way to a 91.9 PFF score on the day. Considering how much journalism is charged with a true freshman, his performance lately is really special.

Morrison put himself in a position to stage these plays on a weekly basis. He shows a great balance of the physique required in the position while not going overboard. All of this has been added to closing Press-man numbers recently. Over the past three weeks in press coverage, Morrison has allowed only five catches on 15 targets while making four interceptions and forcing two more shutouts.
