Detroit Tigers trade target: Tyler O’Neal

The Detroit Tigers need an outfielder. Scott Harris said he preferred that player to a right-handed batter. St. Louis Cardinals player Tyler O’Neal checks both boxes.

O’Neill is a former Mariners third round pick in the 2013 draft. He was traded to the Cardinals in 2017 for Marco Gonzalez. It debuted the following year.

He has dealt with injuries throughout his career. He was up and down the majors and Triple-A in their first two years because of them. In 2020, he won a Gold Glove for NL left fielders after putting up nine saved runs and four tackles above average.

He finally had his breakout season in 2021, slashing .286/.352/.560 with 34 home runs and 144 wRC+. It also put out 5.6 fWAR. It looked like he was finally living up to the lead’s top billing.
