NBA player Ennis Kanter-Freedem, who has repeatedly criticized LeBron James for refusing to speak out against human rights abuses in China, has claimed his Lakers teammate encouraged him to go along.

“One of my teammates that LeBron had had came up to me and said, ‘Dude, keep doing what you’re doing,’” Kanter Freedom said. What you’re doing is right. Don’t Give Up. Podcast” on Fox News Radio.

Kanter Freedom added, “I was so shocked. I thought he’d be like, ‘Stop talking, buddy.'” He’s going to try to defend LeBron, right? It’s like, Dude, don’t stop.”

Kanter Freedom, who has been the NBA’s most outspoken player on geopolitical issues related to human rights abuses in China, and the freedom struggles of Tibet, Hong Kong and Taiwan, added the word “freedom” to his legal name last year. He also wears sneakers touting his geopolitical initiatives and mocks James for refusing to speak out against human rights abuses in China.

The Boston Celtics center grew up in Turkey and officially became an American citizen in November.

Kanter Freedom alleged on Caen’s podcast that a teammate approached him at the free-throw line during a game.

“He said, ‘I have a lot of things I want to say, but I can’t because these teams got us,’” Kanter Freedom said. “If you want another contract, if you want more endorsement deals, if you want other companies to work with you, you have to keep your mouth shut. You can’t criticize the league or the companies or Nike or anyone — the players or the superstars.”

Kanter Freedom told Cain he was glad his team mate James told him to keep going. He also feels more players should speak up.

Kanter added, “I’m like, Dude, come on man.” “Not a single player wants to join me. It made me really sad.”

Kanter Freedom has long sparked a flurry of public statements, previously disowned by his family in 2016 over his support for Fethullah Gulen, the Turkish cleric living in exile in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains.

James has been one of the most active voices on the social justice scene over the past few years. He has made his thoughts known about the murder of George Floyd, an Ohio teen who was fatally shot by a police officer, and the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse. However, James has been remarkably quiet when it comes to geopolitical issues.

Kanter Freedom said he wants to educate James on the issues in China, where the Lakers star has benefited directly or indirectly through his Nike sponsorship and movie deal.
