‘I started watching Formula 1 again when…’: American sensation Logan Sargeant reveals legendary Lewis Hamilton moment behind his decision to uproot his life for the sake of Formula 1

Logan Sargeant is the latest motorsports sensation from the United States. The American driver has secured his coveted Williams Formula One seat for next season. As the F2 driver basks in fame, he revealed the reason he watched Formula 1 back in the day.

In a recent GQ report, the 21-year-old revealed that it was Lewis Hamilton and his battle with Brazilian F1 maestro Felipe Massa nearly a decade and a half ago that sparked the interest in him.

Speaking of this, the sergeant said, “I started watching Formula 1 when Lewis showed up [Hamilton] And Felipe Massa were competing for the championship in 2008. I used to get up early to watch the races. Then I moved to Europe, so I finally started racing at a more normal time for me.”

The 2008 F1 season saw Hamilton and Massa battle it out for glory all season long. The season-ending race in Brazil made Massa the champion for 38 seconds until the McLaren driver crossed the line to take the championship.

Logan Sargeant is from a country where Formula 1 was not very popular until recently. A country famous for NBA, MLB and of course NASCAR. The United States is currently seeing its F1 fan base skyrocket, thanks to Netflix’s Drive to Survive and social media.

When asked why he pursued F1 despite it being a sport not very popular in his country in the past days, Sargeant said, “It is simply the pinnacle of motorsport. It’s where competitiveness is at its highest and where the best drivers in the world are.”

Any kid’s dream is to reach the top of whatever they do, so I’d say that’s what drew me to it,This was stated by Dalton Sargent’s brother. Williams announced that the sergeant will replace Nicholas Latifi for the next season in October 2022.
