Lynchburg Area Traffic Update: Road Construction, Maintenance November 28-December. 2

VDOT has updated its road construction and maintenance schedule in the Lynchburg area for the week of November 28 through December. 2.

District level activities:

Crews will perform various activities across the area to include, but not limited to, bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush/tree/limbing cutting, earthwork/surface/shoulder work, surface treatment operations, work orders, shearing, boom pivot, and drainage repairs Sanitary/work and roadside cleaning.

Amherst County:

Route 29 Works (NBL & SBL between Smokey Hollow Dr. and Route 460 Bypass) – Milling and paving began July 11, changes in traffic pattern likely.

Route 60 – Beginning November 16, a shutdown will be in effect at 795 Richmond Hwy. One lane was closed due to pouring of concrete.

Route 682 (Woody Lake Road) – Beginning August 15, Woody’s Lake Road from Commercial Route 29 to Route 1310 (Troy Road) will be open to two-way traffic. Route 1310 (Troy Road) will be opened to two-way traffic. Route 682 (Woody’s Lake Road) from Route 1310 (Troy Road) will be open to one-way traffic flowing east to Route 1329 (Wildwood Drive) through December 15. Traffic pattern changes are likely. EST. Bedford County:

Route 221 Forest Road. Intersections of 1425 Graves Mill Road and Route 1426 Gristmill Rd. – Traffic pattern changes are likely in lane closures. Started May 1, 2022 and discretionary comp. May 18, 2023.

Campbell County:

Route 29 N via NSRR, near the airport – bridge and approach work; May 2023 company estimates.

Note: Weather permitting, on December 3rd and 4th between 7:00am and 7:00pm, the Contractor will install alternate lanes for milling, paving the way to the new bridge, and diverting traffic to the new bridge. The Contractor will use message boards, signage, and traffic control devices to direct traffic. The inclement weather dates will be December 10 and 11.

Route 29B Timberlake Road Intersection Route 622 Waterlick Road – Safety Improvement Project closes Traffic pattern changes likely effective May 1. May 12, 2023. Beginning October 10, a detour will be placed between Timberlake Road and Progress Dr. Traffic will be directed from Waterlick Rd. To Progress Rd To Crowell Ln. And back to Timberlake Road. Police, signs and informants will be in place directing traffic.

Route 29 South / Route 460 West – Temporary closure of the westbound lane.

Route 623 – Road closure. Motorists should expect delays due to a bridge replacement project on Route 623 in Campbell County. Route 623 (Town Fork Road) will be temporarily closed from Route 625 (Austin Mill Road) to Route 682 (Leesville Road). The road closure began on August 15, 2022 and due to delays, has been extended to December 16, 2022.

Halifax County:

Routes 501 and 610 – Crossing Route Project. Use caution when changing road conditions and traffic patterns. 35 mph at all times during construction. Beginning September 27, 2022, weather permitting, one-way detours with a two-way traffic pattern along Route 501 and Route 610 will be removed. Lane closures and shoulder closures will continue. Fixed completion – May 5, 2023.

Lynchburg:

Route 29/460 (Campbell Ave-Concord Turnpike) – Bridge replacement. Northbound 29 / Eastbound 460 Westbound The speed limit is 45 mph. Lane closure changes to the traffic pattern are likely. Completion July 31, 2023.

Nelson County:

Route 60 Over the James River – Deck Bridge Replacement. Lane closures and changes in traffic patterns have been rescheduled and begun the week of June 6. Comp. July 14, 2024.

Route 151 between Route 638 and Route 250 – Milling and paving begin Sept. 21. Lane closure changes are likely to alter the traffic pattern.

Pittsylvania County:

Route 29 at the Bannister River – Road closure for bridge work. Motorists should expect delays on Route 29 at the Bannister River in the Tightsqueeze area of ​​Pittsylvania County. The northbound bridge will be closed for repairs and both northbound and southbound traffic will cross the southbound bridge. The bridge works began on April 4 and will continue until approximately August 2023.

Route 670 (Deer View Road) – Motorists should expect delays due to sewer replacement on Route 670 in Pittsylvania County. Route 670 (Deer View Road) will be temporarily closed to traffic from Route 642 (Scott Jacobs Memorial Dr.), to the Route 671 (Midway Road) junction. This section of Route 670 will be closed 05/12/2022 – 01/20/2023.

Route 839 (WI Powell Road) – Pipe Fitting.

Route 845 (Hinesville Road) – Road closed for bridge repairs. Motorists should expect delays due to bridge repairs on Route 845 in Pittsylvania County. Route 845 (Hinesville Road) will be temporarily closed to traffic from Route 844 (Mt. Cross Road), to the intersection of Route 882 (Medical Center Road). This section of Route 845 will be closed 11/28/2022 – 12/02/2022.

Route 859 (Micho Rd.) – Pipe replacement.
