NBA trade rumours: Golden State Warriors looking to plug gaps before deadline

Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors could end up making some big moves to fill in the gaps ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Most of us know GSW as the defending NBA champion. In addition, they were favored to repeat and win again this NBA season.

However, a lot has changed and the champions have clearly underperformed to start this season. They currently own a record of 9 wins and 10 losses. This puts them in eleventh place out of the Western Conference and out of the playoffs.

The child killer In good shape. However, there seem to be many problems with the other members of the team. Let’s take a look at what GSW might trade if they decide to make some moves before the trade deadline.

5 possible trading options for Golden State Warriors

GSW currently pays out the largest amount of money to NBA stars. This wouldn’t be a problem if they were profitable and successful. We have to wonder if they feel pressure to make moves, considering none of the new players have developed much this season.

Arguably, Andrew Wiggins and Stephen Curry are the only two Warriors to play elite basketball. The scoring numbers for both Klay Thompson and Jordan Paul fell. On the other hand, Drymond’s defensive effect decreased.

Therefore, it would make sense for Golden State to make some moves in order to ensure they stay in the competition this season. Here are some possible trade options for GSW.

1. The Warriors do a Kevin Durant move

This was already considered heading into this NBA season. Especially since KD decided to ask for a trade even before the NBA season started. At the time, GSW was still in high spirits after winning its fourth title. Thus, it is likely that they never got a good look at this trade.
One could argue that Klay Thompson and Draymond Green could be transferred from Golden State to bring Durant to the Bay Area. However, this move may not sit well with Warriors fans. After all, Draymond and Klay are warriors for life. However, if trading in KD means another title, the Warriors should consider it.

2- Golden State trades for Myles Turner

It is already a known fact that Pacers center Miles Turner is unhappy with his team’s situation and is looking forward to a move from him. On top of that, it offers the elite level of recoil and edge protection that warriors could clearly need.

Obviously, this trade will include Draymond Green, who is the Warriors’ current defensive specialist. He is clearly the most dispensable player and could be replaced by Miles if the opportunity arose. Since they also have similar contracts worth $20-25 million a year, this trade wouldn’t require moving a lot of other pieces.

3- Golden State offers a package that includes James Wiseman and Jonathan Cuminga

There’s no arguing that there are plenty of options for warriors on the table, despite the luxury tax digging deep. They could definitely make some moves if they were willing to let go of some guys. We already know that Jordan Paul and Andrew Wiggins have signed new contracts with the Warriors.

Therefore, a package around some young talent like James Wiseman and Jonathan Cuminga could definitely bring in a star player who could be a difference maker. However, given that both players have not performed well this season, we have to wonder about their current market value.

4- GSW replaces Jordan Poole with a neat package of rebuilding teams

This is definitely an option that the Warriors should consider. Perhaps one of the reasons for their slow start to the season was the altercation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole. In the aftermath, it appears that Paul is not playing at the highest level nor living up to his new deal.
While the contract certainly provides a financial guarantee, the player can still be traded in for a package of equivalent value. Because Paul currently has a 4-year contract worth $140 million. Golden State can certainly get some quality players and young talent for Jordan.

5- Golden State brings back Dwight Howard from the outside — or another unsigned veteran

One could imagine that this might just be the smartest move for the warriors. There are many NBA veterans like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and even DeMarcus Cousins. With the exception of Carmelo perhaps, there is no denying that both Dwight and DeMarcus are excellent centers and defensive players. Dwight currently plays overseas but would definitely love to be in the Warriors.
As mentioned earlier, Defense is something GSW lacks at the moment. Moreover, veteran players will not really need big contracts. This means that the Warriors must keep all of their players and have also managed to make some significant changes to the lineup.
These are all assumptions for now. All of them may or none of them happen by the NBA trade deadline. A lot of decisions will also be made based on the status of the GSW. Given that February 10 is still a long way off, it’s certainly possible for the Golden State Warriors to break through this starting slump and tumble.
