Vitaly Kravtsov is patiently waiting for another chance.
The one thing Gerard Gallant doesn’t like to do with the New York Rangers lineup is make a change when they win. Bouncing back from a 2-0 deficit against the Los Angeles Kings, the Bluechers will be hoping to end this four-game Western Conference run with a win over the Anaheim Ducks.
As this is the second match of a straight set, substitute Jaroslav Halak is expected to start in goal. However, it is unlikely that Vitaly Kravtsov will return after being allowed to join the team for this trip last week.
Here’s tonight’s match and broadcast info:
New York Rangers (10-6-4) – Anaheim Ducks (5-13-1)
date/time: November 23, 2022 at 10:00 p.m. ET
Arena: Honda Center
Television: MSG. MSG2
radio: ESPN 98.7
The New York Rangers face the Ducks
Kravtsov, 22, has just one assist in six games this season and is looking for a chance to get back into the lineup. He suffered a dental infection that kept him out of the lineup after the team’s 8-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on November 10.
“He’s had some unfortunate luck,” Gallant said of Kravtsov on Monday. “At the moment, I like the way our team plays. It will happen – he will play. We want to give him every chance.”
The head coach said he has an idea when he might get him back in the lineup, but he’s not known for making changes after a win.
“I love the way we played,” Gallant explained before his win over the Kings on Tuesday. “The way we played (on Saturday) was really good, so I wouldn’t change anything.”
So when will Kravtsov play again? Gallant will probably feel the need to pit him against a weak Ducks team, but the Rangers need a run. Tonight’s win would match their season-high three-game winning streak (10/29 to 11/1).
Basically, your guess is as good as mine as to when Kravtsov’s next match comes up.
Jaroslav Halek is expected to get the go-ahead for Anaheim. This will be his first game since losing 2-1 to the Nashville Predators on 11/12. For the season, he is 0-4-1 with a 3.22 GAA and an SV% of 0.883.
The most exciting Rangers player to take part in this contest is Adam Fox, who rides nine straight points (4G-10A). He is currently the team leader in scoring with 23 points (6G – 17A) in 20 games. It’s also nice to be tied with Rasmus Dahlen of the Buffalo Sabers for second in NHL scoring by defensemen.
Watch out for the dangerous ducks
The Anaheim Ducks have the highest number of ping-pongs in the Connor Bedard Draft Lottery with the lowest total points in the NHL to date (11).
They’ve lost three straight and are 3-7 in their last ten games. But they have some excellent offensive players like Trevor Zegras who can turn the game on its head with a single lacrosse-style goal.
Zegras has 16 points in 19 games this season, second only to Troy Terry’s 20. Meanwhile, former Rangers player Ryan Strom has 11 points to finish third on the team.
Scoring has never been an issue for the Ducks, it’s defense and goalkeeping.
John Gibson and Anthony Stollers struggled with a combined GAA of 4.02 and an SV of 891%.
Tonight will be a great time for Rangers to have one of their big games.
