The GRANT AND STARK collection for the Swedish debut at the top of the Race to COSTA DEL SOL

After a year-long battle racing to the Costa del Sol, it all came down to the final LET event of the 2022 season – the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.

Swedish stars Lyn Grant and Maja Stark will battle it out in the season-ending tournament at Alferini Golf for the prestigious Race to Costa del Sol title.

It’s been a great year for the duo, who only turned professional in August of 2021, and has seen them rise to be in the top 50 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking.

Grant, who won LET Rookie of the Year a few tournaments ago, has 3394.91 points to her name with compatriot and friend Stark just 69.77 points behind before reaching the final event.

Four-time LET winner Grant said: “I feel like we’ve had a battle every now and then throughout the year and it would be sad if it was already over. I’m glad I made it to the final event, we’re going to give it a good run this week. I feel like it was meant to be that way, it feels good.

“It’s especially fun and nice now to have someone to share the situation with every week. Looking at the amateur events we played a couple of years ago; I think it would be the same where you look back and go ‘wow that’s so cool’ you don’t know what that means 100% for now.”

Stark added: “I’m going to miss this season when I get home next week and realize it’s a month and a half until the next tournament. I’m so tired, but I’ve learned a lot this season and I have a lot of things I want to do differently.”

The Swedish duo had plenty of titles going into the 2022 season with Grant winning four titles throughout the year starting with the Joburg Ladies Open followed by the Mithra Belgian Ladies Open, Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, and finally the Skaftö Open.

While Stark won two LET titles in 2021 just weeks after turning professional she followed it up with three more wins this season starting with the NSW Women’s Open, then the Amundi German Masters and finally the ISPS Handa World Invitational – where she won on her LPGA Tour. Card.

But even though they’ve all won courses, it’s the shared moments off the golf course that made this season so special.

Stark explained: “When I look back on the year, it wasn’t the results that came in, but the fact that it was so much fun hanging out with a friend all year long.

“All the competitions we did together, it was one of my favorite moments at the Amundi German Masters and we were so tired. We were sharing a room and talking and something silly happened and we were dying laughing. That was the best part about doing it together. It’s fun when one of us wins it too” .

The duo has been drawn alongside defending champion Carlota Ciganda and will play the group in the first round at 12.05pm local time.

With the 2022 Costa del Sol race coming down to the final event, there are several scenarios, the main one being that Grant can lead or tie Stark and win the title, while Stark must defeat her compatriot to have a chance. the win.

But what would every player think if getting into the last few holes of the tournament was tight?

“depends on the situation,” Grant said. “The final holes here are twos, fives and threes, I think you can be very aggressive – which we both enjoy.

“Speaking for myself, I think I’ll stick to being aggressive towards those holes. It can get a little scary with the wind and the water and I think it can take a bit to put you through.”

While Stark added: “We’re both very aggressive players and don’t hold back even if we have a lead. The plan is to keep pressing for the birds and we play against ourselves too and you always want to do what’s best for yourself. If only I’d take the pars and I left and Lynn ended up making two birds to pass me , I’ll be upset with myself, so I don’t feel like there’s any reason to hold back.”
