The New York Rangers designate Gustav Rydal to the Wolf Pack and place Johnny Brudzinski on waivers

The New York Rangers roster will drop another player after losing the show last night to the Boston Bruins.

Gustav Rydal and Johnny Brudzinski will narrow the list down to 26 players coming tomorrow afternoon.

Rydal, who does not need to clear waivers, was assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Thursday. Brodzinski is subject to waivers and will be sent once cleared to resume being captain of the Rangers’ AHL affiliate.

Rydal, 28, signed a one-year, one-way contract over the summer as a free agent outside the SHL. The fact that he was off waivers played a major role in why he was sent.

“We loved everything he brought.” Gerard Gallant said via Vince Mercogliano. “For a guy we didn’t know at all, I was very impressed with him. He might be a guy who’s going to see some time here.”

In his four pre-season contests, he recorded an assist and grabbed two snaps. Last season for Färjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League, he scored 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points.

“It’s what I’ve always wanted,” he said. “I had a good feeling about Rangers before I signed with them and now I get good support from the players and the coaching staff.” I work hard to play with the body and play the game. I knew it was going to be tough. But I do everything I can and put 100 percent of myself into it.”

Brodzinski, 29, played in 2 preseason games and scored no points on 6 shots. Last season, he played 22 matches for the Blues, scoring a goal and assisting.
