Traffic rules for Thanksgiving at the Turkey Bowl at Darien High School

Due to the traditionally high turnout for the Thanksgiving football game between Darien School and New Canaan High Schools, the Darien Police Department advises that the following traffic regulations are put in place in the area surrounding Darien High School on Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2022.

Attendees must plan for traffic delays and need extra time to get to the event. All vehicular traffic will enter the DHS campus via Norwuton Street. Ln high school. and Nutmeg Lane will be closed to oncoming vehicle traffic at 7 a.m. Those walking to the event will be allowed entry to these locations.

Parking on campus is limited and will only be available to those with parking permits issued for events. Only vehicles displaying the issued parking permit on the dashboard are permitted on the campus of Darien High School beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Vehicles without a parking permit are required to park at one of the satellite parking locations at Frate Park (Leroy Ave), or St. Thomas More Church, Middlesex School, or Noroton Heights train station. A shuttle service will be used from Middlesex School and Norroton Heights Train Station.

Game tickets and parking cards run out It is no longer available for this event. A disability permit is required to park your vehicle in a limited number of handicapped parking spaces.

These are available on a “first come, first serve” basis. Parking regulations and designated towing areas will be strictly enforced. Past experiences have resulted in illegally parked vehicles blocking lanes or restricting access to emergency vehicles. Vehicles that cause these types of hazards will be recalled.

Upon reaching parking capacity, the Noroton Avenue extension will be closed to vehicular traffic and only shuttle buses will be allowed to enter campus. UBER, Lyft, and other ride-hailing services will not be allowed on campus. It is recommended that those who use these services plan accordingly for delivery and collection as it must take place off-campus.

Onlookers are reminded that according to Darien City ordinance, alcoholic beverages may not be consumed or possessed Which Darien School property is prohibited. This will be implemented with precision. Backyards will not be permitted on school property due to safety concerns and the large amount of vehicles and traffic expected.

All bags, backpacks and coolers are subject to inspection. Spectators will not be allowed to bring bottles into the game. We value audience cooperation and will ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.
