Brennan Osman dominating, Will Coyle scores, and more

New York Rangers prospect Brennan Osman is on a mission to dominate the OHL this season and he’s off to a great start.

In just 5 games, the Blueshirts’ 2021 first-round draft pick has 11 points and is third-best in the league. He is also tied for first place in the number of goals, with 6 goals so far.

Last year, Osman was an absolute powerhouse and scored 50 goals and 97 points for the Flint Firebirds in 66 contests.

Osman, 19, is the captain of the Flint Firebirds, who went 3-2 on the season after a massive 8-1 win over the Erie Otters.

On his first goal of the evening, Osman pulls off a great steal and then waltzes softly as cucumbers slide him through the legs of Otters goaltender Marshall Nichols.

For his second goal, Osman showed his high hockey intelligence as he read the play to open the side of the net. He then showed off his quick goal-scoring hands as he slammed a wide ball off the boards and smashed it into the net to score on the last one.

When the match ended, Othman finished with two goals and an assist for the first star.

In other potential OHL news, Bryce McConnell-Barker caught 2 passes in a 3-2 OT loss to the Soo Greyhounds. The Rangers selected him in the third round of the 2022 draft. He has 5 points (1G-4A) in 7 games this season.

Will Cuylle gets one package

Coyle, 20, scored 43 goals and 80 points in 50 games for OHL’s Windsor Spitfires last season. New York traded Lias Andersson to the Los Angeles Kings for the 6-3, 212-pound forward pick in the second round of the 2020 draft.

Last night, at the start of his full season as a pro with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, he scored a goal.

The play was made by team captain Johnny Brudzinski, who tipped it to Coyle for an easy goal. It was still nice to see the senior striker follow the play and make no mistakes in his first game of the season.

Prospect fullback Matthew Robertson recorded the contest’s two assists in a 4-3 OT loss to the Charlotte Checkers.
