Houston vs Tulsa betting analysis

The Cougars are playing some of their best at the end of the season, but is it too late for Dana Holgorsen’s crew? WagerTalk college football player Kevin Dolan crashed the Houston-Tulsa game this weekend.

The Golden Hurricane have won only two of their last eight matches. Tulsa managed to avoid a spot at the bottom of the AAC table by narrowly defeating last-place South Florida this past weekend, 48-42.

Houston, meanwhile, has won five of its last six games overall and still has a way, albeit a long one, to the AAC Championship Game this season. There is no doubt that coach Holgorsen’s staff will focus on continuing his hot journey in Saturday’s match with Tulsa.

Houston has a 26-19 series advantage over Tulsa, having won six of the last seven meetings between those teams.

Tulsa finds success on the ground

Tulsa ran for 271 yards last week against South Florida and a big part of that success was RB Denrick Prince, who averaged an explosive 8.5 yards per carry and two touchdowns in that game.

This kind of performance is nothing new for the Texas native this season as he ranks as one of only five players in the entire FBS this year to put up more than 200-yard rushing games.

Houston tighten up with the start of the season

After starting the year slow and winning only two of their opening five contests, the Houston Cougars have since become one of the hottest teams in the country during the second half of the season.

Much of Houston’s early troubles were on the offensive line as the Cougars allowed an average of 2.6 sacks per game over their first five starts. Since then, however, the Cougars have allowed only one sack per game on average over the last six games with the defense continuing to improve as well.

Houston vs. Tulsa Prediction

While we’ve impressed Houston in their last few games, we think that number is a bit high here on Saturday and we’re happy to stand by the underdog in this venue.

Tulsa has shown they can pull off some explosive rushing performances this year, putting up over 200 yards in three games already this season against Ole Miss, Temple and South Florida respectively.

The Golden Hurricane rushing offense should find success against a Cougars defense that ranks 71st in the nation this year in opponent yards per rush, giving up 4.2 yards per attempt after allowing 5.4 yards per carry last week against East Carolina.

Take the points with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday to cover the road against the Houston Cougars in the American Athletic Conference.

Prediction: Tulsa Golden Hurricane +12
