No. 18 North Carolina State will play in the ACC Tournament next weekend. NC State is on its way to a bowl game.
Prior to this, the two rivals closed out the regular season with an annual grudge match.
The Tar Heels (9-2, 6-1 ACC) and Wolfpack (7-4, 3-4) are battling it out as the postseason approaches. NC State has lost two in a row while UNC saw its six-game winning streak snapped with Georgia Tech pulling 21-17 last Saturday in Chapel Hill.
A national television audience on ABC will give UNC quarterback Drake Maye a chance to boost his Heisman Trophy nomination after a loss to Georgia Tech hurt his case. Maye leads the ACC in passing yards (3,614) and has thrown 34 touchdown passes and only four interceptions.
NC State is at the other end of the quarterback spectrum. ACC Player of the Season Devin Leary suffered a season-ending injury in October. Freshman MJ Morris led the Wolfpack to wins over Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, but was injured during a 21-20 loss to Boston College on November 12. Morris did not play in last Saturday’s 25-10 loss in Louisville.
Ben Finley and Jack Chambers are potential starters for the Wolfpack if Morris can’t match it against UNC.
